basic food handling certificate is required, after that some places are just can you use a microwave??
Definatley a worry, just ask your local food inspector at the concil. Give the name of the premises and the address and they are able to check. Our local council issues stickers for the window that are rated on 5 stars, 2 or less avoid.BSC member 137

Meh, I've worked in several restaurants and pubs. Never had a certificate,One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I overheard the landlord 'bragging' about the lack of training/qualifications for him and the other guy who works in the kitchen.
So that alone makes it worth reporting them?
I really do despair why do so many people feel the need to act as quasi Stasi informers.
The old bible quote is quite apt:- Let he who is without sin.........0 -
I don't think qualifications are mandatory in catering yet - but the knowledge to keep things healthy & hygienic would be.
A lot of 'old hands' came up the long old-fashioned way, trained on the job, so are un-certificated. It might not be ideal but it's not illegal.
SOME organisations require paper quals, but a lot of independents don't.
So report if their standards are inadequate, but not just if it's a certificate that's not there! :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
None of the kitchen staff have any qualifications, specifically food handling/hygiene.
I think you'll find that though recommended there is no LEGAL need for them to have one. So what you could report them for I don't know.0 -
think of all the poor pies n pasties that could be being mistreated.

The OP wants to report them because they believe a crime has been / is being committed. If they are wrong, Environmental Health or whoever will decide to take no action.
Why on earth you think that counts as 'Stasi informers' I have no idea.
Agencies like environmental health or the police rely heavily on intelligence from the community. It's idiots like you who complain at those with a conscience that make it more difficult, and impact everyone else.
Thing is, when you get food poisoning, when your car gets stolen, or when something else happens that could have been avoided, I bet you're one of the first to complain at the agencies.0 -
The place to contact is Environmental Health at the local council. Most likely a report like this would mean a surprise inspection, and they will take action based on their findings.
I agree that it is not a requirement for all staff to have qualifications, but it is good practise for at least one person in a professional kitchen to hold a Basic Food Hygeine certifiate, and best practise for all staff to hold one. EH will not be impressed if no-one has gone one!Shrinking my mortgage!
