Hi Lellie, have you actually bought and fitted this to the PB? Is it preferable to using a PC card, what are the advantages etc?

This is in reference to the Ebuyer mini PCI wireless card:

    This is the card HERE

I am desperate to know if this can work with our new E6 Laptops. From what I can make out the laptop has obviously got the mini PCI slot when you remove the cover on the base but I cant see the antennas that would need to be contected to the card.

This is the card being installed in another laptop

    Anyone know?

    Thanks!!!

  • The antennas are the grey and black wires attached to the card.

I've ordered the card from Ebuyer and will let you know how I get on.

Is the mini pci card any better than getting a PC card to put in the slot on the side?

Thanks for that BUT the grey and black wires are not attached to the card, they are attached to a laptops intenal antenna (if its got one, which im thinking ours dont)

we haven't bought one yet but we will be.. all I know there is a pci mini slot and that's a mini pci card so that suggests it will work as these things are generally compatible with anything. not sure about the antenaes - there ust be instructions..

Being an 'oem' product there are no instructions.

I will investigate further. I would rather not have a card sticking out the side if i can help it!

Notice mine gets very hot - fan does eventually kick in but much later than I would expect- anyone else the same ?
It actually seems to run cooler than my Dell laptop, which has an Intel P3 1.2MHz processor, and I use that one a lot with no problems.

I wouldn't worry about it, if it does get too hot, the motherboard will shut it down before any permanent damage is done. And if not, it's under warranty ;)

I usually find that AMD processors run a bit hotter than Intel ones, but I guess this one is a mobile processor, so it bucks the trend.

As one of the lucky ones on this forum who got a laptop... :D:D:D:D:D I have a request.

This is my first "new" laptop (previous ones were all cast offs), and so starting afresh is new territory. :) .... And I want to get it RIGHT, hence I have done no more than plug the unit in to charge. (haven't even hit ON) ;)

Soooooooooooo I am hoping, rather than keep adding to this thread, One (or more) of those who have the laptops (and know what they are doing ;) ) would consider a new PB6100E SPECIFIC techie thread, with the first posts being edited to reflect progress being made, recommendations on upgrades (I still cannot find the PNY 256MB DDR P2700 200-Pin SO DIMM for £22 online) problem solving (i.e the NAV issue), etc, etc?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit from the wisdom of others (or maybe I am :o ) And as all the units will be identical, any advise should be real useful, ie.... "I bought X, installed it in Y, n it works if ya do Z"

Just a thought... And Ta if anyone is willing to help. :D

The mini PCI card is actually designed for an Intel Centrino based system - you need an internal antenna. I don't think this laptop has one :(
