£30 was a bargain. £200-£250 new and sell used on eBay for a fair whack.

For a 9 year old coat? hmm, in a dress agency maybe and they would have fixed the buttons, I'm not convinced it was a bargain altho I take your point(s). I am becoming very unimpressed tho with the charity shops here, £10 for bobbly primark jumpers, £3 for battered paperbacks. In the next town to here (much more 'well to do') I got a Barbara Hulanicki wrap dress for £3 last week now that's a bargain (to me)
Love many, trust few, learn to paddle your own canoe.

“Don’t have children if you can’t afford them” is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter how children got here, they need and deserve to be fed.

Brought a beautiful houndstooth check skirt for £2 marked at size 16 when I got it home found it's vintage and more like a size 12!!
    Slightly bitter
  • If shopping in charity shops wasn't thrifty enough, our local Cancer Research shop also has a buy 2 get 2 free 'promotion' at the moment, actually it's been going for a while! All of their clothes are £2 (coats etc are more expensive but nothing more than a fiver that I've seen) so 4 items for £4! - £1 each, bargain. Well £5 because at that price I feel reluctant to get my £1 change so I just tell them to keep it and they're over the moon when really I'm the one over the moon. If you have a good ol' rummage you can find some absolute gems in there, got a French Connection jumper, YSL t-shirt, Gap jumper, to name a few. Now I'm not one for labels, I couldn't care less, but the look on people's faces when I tell them it only cost £1 is priceless! :D

I guess we're pretty lucky, as some of the other charity shops in town seem so expensive, so much so I've seen items dearer in there than the shops they came from - one even had a £2 label on a set of 4 Tesco value wine glasses which still had the original Tesco label of 88p on it, hmm, bargain?!
28/04/11 - A bad day for shoppers everywhere (Tesco shoppers that is!) RIP DTD :A
  • I went in a charity shop today that was selling well-worn Primark coats for £20. I doubt they cost that new! Needless to say I didn't buy.
:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator :p
  • Nothing in the charity shops today, but in one shop some bloke (sadly I think he was one of the alcoholics in the area) stole a fleece - 2 older ladies working there ended up leaving the shop to recover it from him (they have an alarm in that particular shop - the only charity shop in the whole city that does to my knowledge)!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I got loads of Christmas Tree Decorations 10 for a £1 in our local cs. Also got set of lined curtains door length for £8 which is a real bargin. Most clothes though are so expensiveI don`t bother.
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.
