What is your charity shop bargain of the week?

  • Thanks everyone. The drivers/delivery guys are paid (I was told). The manager was most apologetic but that doesn't make up for my disappointment at BHF. She's now saying it should only be delivered to a bungalow!
Fortunately, we have an Oak Furniture clearance shop in our town and the guys there couldn't have been more helpful. We bought a solid oak wardrobe for little more than the charity shop one. It has some scratches on the side (that will be against the wall) and needs the handles replacing (not a problem). They're delivering Wednesday so all our clearing and re-organising hasn't gone to waste. I don't love it as much but it's certainly sturdy and will do the job.
    Normal people worry me.
  • Rarely get to charity shops but I found one nearby where I live - got sturdy wicker basket, Ralph Lauren t shirt and 4 large books all for €7.. Planning on using them all as Xmas pressies so definitely a bargain!

Do you live en France? :D

My prophecy about divining books I want to read from the chaz has come true yet again...added 3 to my collection, plus another for good luck.

I may need a new bookshelf soon but cannot think where I would find the space for it. :o

Thanks - that's good advice, although I have had it out of the bag and tried it on (still like it and tempted to keep it - especially after reading the positive feedback from esmy & mavvymoo).

Re prices - I love my £1 bargains from the sale rail in my local hospice shop but for some items I tend to look at the original price and might just splurge.
For example, I bought a new Kipling bag for £20 (I love these) which was on QVC for £70.

Now you've really rained on my parade, mavvymoo. :D;)

But it was a couple of years ago and from a local School chazzer who are always so cheap. Had it been in one of the other shops it would have been at least £20 My friend has just got one and she paid £70 for hers so yours is not a bad price and you will get loads of wear out of it :D

Talking Hotter shoes I picked up a pair of Bright Pink Suede MaryJane style flats at the weekend new £4 were £8 but were half price ;)
And an LK Bennett wool skirt in Black for £2.95 ;)

While I was out on Monday I tried on a lovely Laura Ashley long Black 100% wool coat for £7:eek: It was a bit big on me in great condition but I would have had it Dry cleaned.

Fantastic bargain wished I had got it now and just worn a thick jumper with it.

Doubt its still there but might pop back to day just to check ;)

Edited to say just checked 'The Bay' and its a Vintage Riding coat' and they are selling between £150 -£275 !

How much would the dry-cleaning be?
I'd go back and see if the coat is still there.
    NOW!
I love long wool coats in the winter with flat boots and pashminas and hat and gloves.
But I travel on public transport a lot and like to be warm waiting for buses - and sometimes on them if the heating isn't working that well.

Loads of clothes and books recently.

What should I look out for that are not clothes and books? What is a good buy?

You could look at kitchen equipment, I've bought some good saucepans from charity shops.
    Or bric-a-brac generally.
Or items that you could give as christmas presents. for example, brand new boxes of body lotion/shower gel.
I guess it depends what you like and need.
