Morning All:wave:
Well, The Plan, is not working... Not sure if I mentioned it on here but I made up a new rule for myself i.e. whenever something comes in, something has to go out! I am notoriously bad at sticking to resolutions & regimes etc. but I am determined with this one!
So, after my nice finds on Mon/Tues, I did as I told myself, had an audit & took some donations BACK to the CS yesterday. "Aha!" you are thinking, "isn't she doing well..." Nope, I'm not 'cos I bought the following whilst I was there, all from the local Hospice shop:
2 pairs of "evening" shoes, both black, both beautiful quality, one pair is Moda in Pelle with red poppies embroidered on them & a beautiful tiny red glass beaded buckle on the slingback (very good make, used to buy a lot of these in "the bad old days"), the others are Italian with a pale bronze leather appliqued over the main black part of the shoe - £5 & £5.50 respectively.
2piece thermal vest & matching thermal long-sleeve top in baby-pink, trimmed with cream lace - £2.50. Am building up a nice collection of thermals & I wear them a lot as cami tops, even in summer, under dresses & shirts.
3 pairs of extraordinarily interesting tights with pants built into them! They are very good quality & the very old looking original price ticket of £7 each is from an expensive department store in York. £1 per pair. Don't wear tights on a day-to-day basis, due to short, stumpy legs they're always too long. I'm a big fan of M*atalan hold-ups as they do a small size & they NEVER fall down. Bought these as the volunteer kindly let me open a packet & they are indeed small so will give them a whirl. Says on the packet can be worn without any other "undergarments" & the brief part is very nice cotton. + another pair of tights, in navy, for friend for jumbilympic outfit - 50p.
Then, I paid an eye-watering £15!!! For one garment! It's a beautiful leather jacket from M&S, in black. I'm not usually a fan of leather jackets at all & I thought this was fabric until I touched it. The leather is like butter & it fitted me like a dream. Must have been another tiny & vertically challenged lady like me as it was an 8 & the sleeves were tucked up as if they'd been too long for her blesss!
I fear this is becoming a very bad habit & have to stop. I did give myself a £50 budget to treat myself when I got some monies owing from old job & to celebrate getting new job but I have more than spent that now & so it has to stop! True to my word, I have taken some things out of the wardrobe last night to replace the new-comers & will take them down to the Hospice shop today but I won't be taking my purse!
Thanks to all who post, I love reading. Enjoy all your finds. x0 -
Coo, a nice leather jacket for fifteen quid. Sort-of expensive when you compare what you spend on other things but a leather jacket is something which you could still be wearing in ten year's time if it's a classic style. I'd say that was money well-spent.
I'm all dressed and ready to go out, and the temptation to hop on the bus and see what they've got in the SA Thrift Shop is almost overwhelming. It's my favourite place. What makes it worse is that some items are only fifty pence each, like the two shaggy white bath-mats I bought not long ago which are seven or eight quid each in @sda. And the sweet blue gingham checked tea-cosy I decided I needed. And. And.
Someone please tell me to get a grip! It's not like I actually have any disposable income at the moment, what with both the gas and electricity bills arriving in the same week.....
Greed and acquisitiveness are terrible, terrible traits.0 -
I bought a globe shaped paperweight with a dandelion inside for a quid (how did they get the dandelion inside? I have two degrees and should know stuff like this) in a CS. Saw in one of those tedious "interior trends for this season" features in a Sunday glossy that they were priced up at £18.
I love it when someone compliments me on an outfit and it was a charity shop bargain. I told myself when I hit 30 that I'd just serenely smile and say thanks, but I still can't stop myself going "Hah!" and telling them the amazing price tag. It's like a double win. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
I'd like to say thanks to the lovely people or person who have made it possible to really treat myself & my little boy this week for pennies!
Further to Saturdays haul, today I've managed to pick up a ELC tambourine for 50p similar to what he loves in Tiny Talk, also an unworn "Me to you" sleepsuit for £1.50, a lined Baby Gap shirt for £1.99 and a super soft Next polo shirt for £1.50. It's days like this that my self imposed maternity pay budget doesn't feel so bad!0 -
