I picked up a North Face fleece jacket the other day in a Red Cross cs for £3.50....approximately 5% of it's original cost!

I think my best recent buy was a gorgeous black & white rose print shift dress from Laura Ashley - cost me £4.50 and fits like it was made for me.

Because of homone medication my weight just goes up and up, so the charity shop is my best friend. My best buy this week have to be 4 mens polycotton shirts which I have 'remade' into smashing blouses for the summer ..................... cost? just £3:beer: Having always been a neat little size 12 to now find myself impersonating the Michellin Man is more than a little depressing and CS's don't always have much in larger sizes. But with a good pair of shears a bit of imagination a rummage in my bits box and a new outfit is mine:T

I also bought 2 gored skirts for £5 which I took to pieces and reassembled to make one that actually fitted me. I also buy up cheap belts for the buckles (well, they never fit me) and I cut away the old fabric and replace with new longer fabric, interfacing and trims. I am a bit 'bohemian' in my style but I always get nice complements.
  • hello fellow bargain hunters.

i had a few bargains today,

a gorgeous cracked glaze vase with brass handles - not an antique, prob out a high street shop, but lovely all the same - and only £1.00 - perfect for the livingroom windowsill.

the exact same as this - http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/bhsstore/976347/233089
except my base is brass - same shade etc, and from same shop - £3.50

a little wicker case, like this but without the food

Im thinking I could spray paint it and possibly line it, and use it as a little sewing project box. - That was £0.50

Some gorgeous cleam and brown stripy linen fabric. Not sure how much fabric is on the roll, but enough for a project or two I'd guess. £1.00

and last of all, a little blue flowery vintage tin. Free to a good home.

    Happy hunting!!!

İ am wearing my 'shoe' crocs today that i bought last summer for 2 quid. CS are the only reason i return to the uk every summer(i live in Turkey now)--my Turkish wife and daughter name it as their favourite part of trip!!--i have often thought a 'recommended' CS listing might be useful resource because i know some of the best shops in my local in the uk are quite 'isolated' and visitors to the city would never find them.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh deary me. Just when I typed only yesterday that I don't often look at clothes in charity shops because I have plenty already I went to a charity shop this afternoon and bought two items of clothing. Look, I just had to OK?

One absolutely gorgeous Monsoon dark tourquoise and navy sleeveless top for £3.45 and a bright fuchsia linen top/tunic-thing with lovely embroidery on it for £2.95. Both of which are going to go perfectly with the cheapo navy linen trousers I bought a few weeks ago.

I told the lady in the shop that she had to absolutely guarantee that we're going to have a summer this year or I'd be filing a complaint with Head Office.

Roll on summer, I'm ready for you!

De1amo: for finding out precisely where any CSs are when I'm venturing to a new area I use yell.com and my trusty online map. I leave nothing to chance. No, I do not. Shopping is far too serious a business for that.

My bargain of the week is a pair of Levi boot cut jeans for £1.50. I've been looking for another pair of jeans for ages but they seem to be overpriced in most CSs. Glad I found this pair today.

i know what you mean B&T about not buying but how can you resist when you find that golden bargain :T

Today I got a genuine radley bag for £1.....but before I get you all jealous ...the dog is missing (doesnt bother me) and, this is the real pain, the lining is covered in a brown colour stain. i have decided that this is probably fake tan. So does anyone know how to get fake tan out of a handbag lining?? It is quite visable when you open the bag.

i also got a pair of MBT mens shoes for £4. They look like they have been bought, worn to walk outside for 2mins, and rejected instantly. Cant understand how wasteful some folk are but really appreciate it :rotfl::

the best CS in the bournemouth area is in lower parkstone poole--the neighbourhood is very rich and it keeps it's goodies!--the best group of shops is in winton which is 4 miles out of the centre of bournemouth--there is another good indivdual shop in lower charminster---i would like info on shops within striking distance of bournemouth area to have away days for the shop hungry girls--whats shaftesbury like?

Everything depends on what fabric the bag is lined with and whether you want to clean it or dye it. I'd give it a good going-over with a strong solution of trusty old Stardrops first and if that doesn't shift it some shoe-cleaning solution for fabric shoes and see whether that makes any difference. It seems a pity to pick up a bag very inexpensively and then spend four or five-times the purchase-price in cleaning solutions which may or may not work. But for Radley it may be worth it.

A second choice night be to completely remove the lining and try to dye it with Dylon, or replace it altogether..

I have two theories about brand-new shoes in charity shops: one is that someone bought them and found them uncomfortable so they had to go. Personally I have ways and means to solve that but I'm pretty single-minded when it comes to expensive purchases like shoes. The other theory is that they were bought for the donater and were the wrong size altogether. Of course, some people (usually women) buy things then put them away and never wear them. And then only rediscover their existence when they run out of storage-room. I have a family member who does that but the tragedy is that the blighter doesn't wear the same size as me.
