    Aga cookbook dating from 1930!! - 50p

Love the Tia Greyhound Rescue Shop. These smaller concerns are the only places I find bargains nowadays.

I used to work in an RSPCA shop and I was embarrassed at some of the prices they tried to charge at times. All for getting a fair return on a donated item, as it should be, but common sense has to be involved.

In today’s Barnardoes charity shop hoke I didn’t buy a Paul Costello tweed coat for £8 as it had Eighties-tastic shoulder pads and I'm not good enough at sewing to take them out. Nor did I buy an Avoca Anthropologie brown hooded cardi wrap for £3.50, because it was a bit too frilly for my taste. And my final non-purchase was a White Stuff tunic for £3 because I wasn't sure if I could shorten it. So I left those bargains for the next shopper.

I did buy a lovely Boden bright green and blue striped long sleeved t for £1.99, and a half pint Pyrex jug for 50p.

  • Got a pair of lovely soft leather lotus shoes for work, £2 they look like new from the local Salvation Army shop.
  • Picked up one or two bits today from various shops. 2 New m & s bras, a book, a fake Gucci purse and a Hotter purse that looks like new. I was shocked though to see something in one charity shop (think it was something like Age Uk maybe) Something bright orange caught my eye in the window. On closer look it was something called a Mozzee Nest. It's apparently a designer type baby's high chair . The sign put on it said that it was over £300 New and they were asking £126!! There is one on eBay at the moment on £46. Mad charity shop pricing again. I also saw a new pack of 2 Primark pillowcases and they wanted £1.95. They are only £2.00 in store!!
  • Mentioned in another post, but for £4.50 I bought a vegetable spiralizer - one of those bits of kit which makes vegetable spaghetti. They are around £30 to buy so it was a bargain as long as I use it. At that cost it's worth the risk.

In shelter I looked through a plastic bread bin of junk and found a dirty wadeheath jug. As there was no price, they suggested £1.25.
This jug is from 1928 and a similar design can only be found in the stoke on Trent museum!
I took a load of DVD,s down to salve my conscience. On what's it worth website, it was valued at £350.
I am never going to sell it.

From reading this thread since it started, there seems to be an increase in people buying from CS and then selling on for profit.

Am I the only person who has a slightly iffy feeling about this?

I understand that this is some peoples' means of income, but how do people feel about the CS who could be selling the same items for similar ampounts to help their work?
