I've been helping a friend kit out a big 2/3 bedroom flat on rather less than a shoestring this week. All there was in there to start with was a cooker, a table & some curtains, and we've done it from friends & family, Eb*y, Gumtr*e, Fr*ecycle, Fr*egle, the Tip and the local charity shops for less than £100. Admittedly at this point she doesn't have a proper bed, just a mattress on the floor, but her teenage daughter does. Anyway, the best bits from the local charity shops this week have been some good cotton & linen sheets & pillowcases in the dog-blanket basket at 50p each, and a lovely solid carved hardwood lamp base at £4 to go with the outrageous chinese-style lampshades I'd found at the Tip.

I went to an 80s concert last year and was reminded what an amazing singer Jimmy Somerville is, and I have been meaning to get a CD of his ever since. I found his greatest hits CD today in my local CS for 50p, and have been playing it ever since. I also got DD some Gap jeans for £1.
    Aims for 2014
Drink a glass of water a day, Empty handbag at least once a week, Continue "not putting things off" and tackle things head on, Treasure people around me, Stay healthy and well away from hospitals, Continue to declutter/decorate house slowly and not get stressed because I can't do everything at once. :D

I thanked you for the £1 Gap jeans which were a fantastic bargain but I'll take back a half-thank for Jimmy Somerville. Not to my taste at all but I know you'll enjoy the CD.

Well done Thriftwizard on doing so well for your friend. :)

I got a Monsoon silk top today for £3.50.

    Who's Jimmy Sommerville?

I saw a picnic basket for sale similar to another poster's buy on here, for £12. I was a little tempted, but really wouldn't use it. It had everything in it for 2 people.

A lovely tailored black velvet Jasper Conran jacket - it was £6.99, which seems a lot for a charity shop jacket, but it is as new, its a great fit, and his jackets in debenhams usually cost between £55 and £70.

I bought a Jasper Conran jacket (new) about six or seven years ago, and I have had a lot of wear out of it, but its now too big, so I'm pleased to have found this one!

Omg read through this whole thread right from the star tonight
You have all got me really in the mood to have a damn good search in my local CS

I do pop into them for something specific but never really have a thorough search, I may have to change my tactic
I love War Of The Worlds:heart2:

Yes, you do. Half of the fun is finding unexpected (and often completely un-needed but now you've spotted them, must-have) darling treasures.

I haven't been for a good CS browse for a week now and am suffering terrible withdrawal symptoms. I might go and have a look-see in the Sally Ann on Monday. I can come out of there with lots of small things for only a couple of quid. Which is just as well really as that's normally all I've got.
