Do we buy next to 24 hr petrol station

We have found our dream property that everything we wished for in a property. but the property is next to a petrol station. the distance is about 50 meteres . the pertol station is on a main road but our property is on side quite side street e.g corner plot. the entrance to the petrol station is further away then the property ( about 50 m ) . the petrol and property is devided by trees and shrubs . Not only that the section backing onto the side of our garden is general car park but also entrance to car wash and not petrol pumps .

Would this be an issue for the following please ?

1. health reasons as we got a three year old.
2. re sale of the house if we deside to sell in future .
3. would the soil in garden be affected due to chemicals.
4. Would we have any issues of getting a mortgage due to it been so close ( mortgae is already agreed in principal prior to seeing this property)

We would be very gratefull for any imput in our tricky decesion we need to make as the house is beautiful apart from that.

I wouldn't personally because of the potential resale problems with people like me not liking the location in addition to the reasons you state.

I wouldn't because I know someone who works in one and they have a fair amount of drink drivers coming in for fuel (and alcohol).

I find this very hard to believe. And if it does happen I assume your friend reports them to the police?

To the OP: no I wouldn't buy it. Having worked in a petrol station they can be noisy places and we very frequently got complaints from neighbours about noise, especially from the car wash as it was a jet wash and young lads liked to wash their car with the music on full blast. Smell might also be an issue. As might insurance. And there will be a large number of people who also wouldn't buy it, so reselling will be difficult.

    .

Yes, of course, where possible. These are people driving to the petrol station to buy more alcohol, not drunken people suddenly deciding to fuel the car. I don't know why it is so hard to believe. Of course the majority of people are fine, it is the exceptions that tend to get commented on.

For me the potential problems selling it in the future would be enough to stop me buying it.

No I wouldn't due to noise, resale and all the issues listed above.

I live opposite a 24 hour petrol station on a fairly busy road. I can't say I've ever noticed any smell, or any noise over and above the normal road noise. Our bedroom window faces the road/petrol station, so if it was noisy i would notice. I also cant say that I've noticed it being a magnet for drink drivers.

All in all it doesn't bother me at all, and is quite handy when I have run out of milk, or the mrs decides she wants some Ben and Jerry's at 10pm on a Saturday night.

I am renting though so don't have to worry about resale value.

I used to live in a flat right next to a petrol station. We would get quite a lot of frights from big bangs when young lads would pump up their bike tyres with the air machine meant for car tyres! I never got used to it. I'd look out the window and you could see the dismay on their faces. :rotfl:

    Do petrol stations sell alcohol?
