I am a single mum with 4 kids .. i missed an appointment with the work programme i have now had my jsa sanctioned till 28th november .. I can just abt manage on what i get , i dont know what to do CAN ANYONE ADVICE ME NICELY PLZ..
You can apply for a reduced JSA (the hardship payment) but whether you receive it or not should not be a problem.

Why do you need help? None of your children's credits or benefits have been affected, have they? What expenses do you have that are not manageable? Do you have child care or travel costs? If you are not working then I am not sure why living off the income for four children is at all a problem - do they not still receive more than three hundred pounds each?

If you cannot live off £1200 for a month then how on earth can you live off £1500 for months on end? What real difference has your sanction made?

Why can you only just about manage? What are the costs that are eating up your usual income? They need to be adjusted.

The only possible problem you should have is trying to keep your savings to under £8,000.

Kazza55, Hardship is very tough to get, They will ask you for a bank statement, and even ask you to have your family members write in explaining why they can't help you. Oh yes!....
And even if you did all these things, you'll still might not get anything for over two months. The Corporation ie, Government will expect you to take food out of your childrens mouths to feed yours so you can look after your children and still look for work and do all the normal things you were doing while you was on JSA. You see your JSA is still LIVE! So you won't be getting any benefits but you'll still be expected to apply for jobs, and probably visit work programs, Skint! And if you feel it's not fair you have to do all these things and not receiving any benefits, and say no! then they will sanction you further and possibly right into next year.

Meaning no presents for your children I'm sorry to say. What a wonderful country we live in huh? yeah, right!.
  • Perhaps, in future, you might consider doing a little research before using such a patronising tone towards what is, a genuine concern to many people, in regards to sanctions at the DWP.
Mind you, you are not alone in your 'thinking', as no less than IDS himself was caught out...
In The Guardian of 8-4-11, you can read of when this happened, under the headline, Government admits Jobcentres set targets to take away benefits.
  • Perhaps in future you might check the dates of threads before you post. This one is over a year old!
