Thanked purely for that quote. :rotfl:

At least you haven't suffered a sense of humour failure. :)

Right, then yes, I do think that there is a legal onus on them to hold the items for a reasonable period to allow someone to claim them. They surely have a lost property book? Or a policy re items found on their premises. Is it a small concern or a chain gym?

I would be asking to see their policy on lost and found items, and putting my complaint in writing. Have they stated they disposed of them or that they were never found?

It's a large chain (I don't currently want to name it as to do so might alert them and afford time in order to [STRIKE]fabricate [/STRIKE]prepare their defense).

I like your idea regarding a lost property book (which I'd hope would be standard practice) as, after they told me they had disposed of the items (but couldn't or wouldn't say how), I checked with the police Lost-Property (in case they had been passed onto them which, in my opinion, it should be mandatory for these people to pass "lost" goods onto - rather than simply "disposing" of them. After all, who is going to "dispose of", through destruction, hundreds of £pounds in physical cash?) and the police lost-property office does actually itemise EVERYTHING handed in and how it is eventually disposed of. The gym's overall claim is that they periodically dispose of property left there but it appears they just have an arbitrary clear-out, periodically. Unfortunately, it also appears that this means that (depending upon when an individual's item was left) an item could have been there for as long as a month (or more) or as short as, say, 24 hours.

    It's all very, very wrong.

    Thanks for your input.
  • He claims he's in Jersey so it is probably Fitness First.
  • So both of you lost your stuff then?

Both of you 'forgot' to go back to the gym?

What a load of tosh! You're trying to go for the sympathy vote now. Some will go for it. But not me.
  • I was going to ask that assuming you went to the gym by car (I doubt very much you would have carried gym kit to the funeral) wouldn't it have been more logical to put the clothing (left in the locker) in the car ?

After all you had the forethought to take your gym clothes with you to the funeral?

  • If pointing out the inaccuracies in your story is trolling then yes I appear to be doing that.

According to you both you and your "friend" lost valuable clothing and shoes.

So what's he doing about his loss then?

It doesn't make sense Mountain that's why I think it is a fake story.

    Funeral clothes at funeral.
Home to put casuals on. Carry gym kit
    Work out/shower/put casuals on.
    Leave gym kit in locker????

So the dozy pair left stinky sweaty gym kit in their lockers and it got thrown away. Why is anyone surprised?

Or they went to the gym in funeral clothes which is more unlikely as then a suit (presumably but who knows these days) has to get stuffed into a locker. Who in their right mind would do that with an expensive suit? Equally you wouldn't leave a suit in a locker with smelly gym stuff - you'd hang it up in your car like reps do.

Good point and thanks for raising it.

We had a work-out, showered, retrieved our casual clothes from our lockers and dressed, decided to go for a juice (if we had taken the other clothes to the car, we would probably have just got in the car). Locked the lockers with the funeral attire in and went for a juice (which was a damn site closer than the car-park).

We never "intended" to forget our clothes in the locker. We simply left and returned to our friends.

Clothes can be replaced. Reasonably large amounts of cash can never be replaced. I have a theory (let's call it the "Glass-Half-Empty-Theory") which is that, if I lose a fiver I will forever be a fiver down. Even if I subsequently find a tenner, I will still only have £10 rather than £15 until the day I die. I just hate losing money but can live with it, providing the same hasn't been misappropriated (I don't mind genuinely "found" - good luck to them) but dishonestly retained from me through deception (which I suspect has occurred) shouldn't be allowed to go unchallenged.
  • Whilst you have been registered a grand total of 10 days, perhaps you have forgotten your manners? No comment. ;)

This scenario does seem very unlikely but even more unlikely is that someone would create such a boring story for fun. Probably an alias. As for the OP coming from Jersey, this was mentioned in one of his posts from 5 years ago so we cannot just assume that this is still the case. Why not?

My gym logs each and every item of lost property - where it is found, when it is found and a description. Would be very surprised if the gym could dispose of any lost property in less than 30 days.

One would assume that a 'big chain' would have certain procedures as standard across the chain which makes the story even more unlikely.

Is it just me or does this post strike anyone as odd? I meal you need cash to replace the clothes so he's doubly out of pocket IF he lost clothes and cash![/QUOTE]

What did you pay for the juice with? Money out of your wallet? But your wallet was in the locker with the cash in it. Wasn't it? ;)

And another thing....Why did you take your car keys to the juice bar if you fully intended to return to the locker to get your stuff? :rotfl:
