word of warning.
If you don't know romford, do your homework.
Drive around the area on a Saturday afternoon (it you get over 10 mph you'll be doing well), and on a saturday evening to see if it's on a main route out of the centre for drunker revellers.
Some areas are nice, others i wouldn;t touch.0 -
Hi thanks for the advice what would you classify in your opinion as a 'nice' area of Romford?
Thanks
Yasmin0 -
where i live

tbh i don't know the area that well, but many parts have a bad reputation. We kind of knew the area of our purchase anyway, so didn't really need to do many 'drive-bys'.
personally i wouldn't live any closer to the station that i currently do (15 min walk) along London Road. Close enough for work, far enough to be away from the center.0 -

Nice house, but backs onto the railway line so could be noisy. House buying isn't easy but if you do your research well you will find the right place.
What's your top budget? In what area(s) do you want to live? Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
Hello
Thanks for your comments really appreciated
Rach my max budget would be up to 220k but that is absoulte maximum unless i win the lottery
. Most probably with a view to offering under the asking price as per ususal.
My main requirments are that I am near a main line or tube station within a london borough etc. I would now prefer a house if possible. I would not mind staying in the east london area as I am currenlty renting in Stratford (can't afford to buy around here though prices are sky high).
So I guess I just have to keep on looking....

I'll have a Look around for you too Yasmin if you like, I know most of the local area from Stratford out to Upminster (All either tube line or Overhead) so if I can help I will.
Whatever you do, dont make any snap decisions & check out the local areas at different times of day to see how the land lies. Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
Hi Rach
Yes that would be great if you could have a look as well. Its very much appreciated.

hi there, just noticed you mentioned Romford, i actually work in romford, off of oldchurch street. I too wouldn't like to recommend the area but then I guess that depends how old you are and what your into, the town center always reminds me of 18-30 holiday where the town centers are crammed full of clubs and pubs, not a bad thing if your a twenty something, but when your looking to settle down I'm not sure if I'd even like to my wife to walk home at night alone.
It is busy especially as the other poster mentioned on a Saturday.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and now even Sunday and always crammed full of revellers (i think they call them!!) i'm only just the wrong side of 30, maybe i'm too old for my age.
How about harold wood, or maybe upminster, I know upminster is a nice area.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
ive seen a nice house, 4 bed detached, nice but not done up greatly, bathroom quite scabby, i read on net house price it sold for £175, 000
18 months ago, and they want £215, 000
i dont think they have done a thing to it..
would it be reasonable to offer 200, 000?
our "for Sale" sign goes up tommorow so weve only just started selling our house0 -
Hi Stolt
So do you work near where there is a lot of new developments near the hospital? I just need somewhere i can walk to or get the bus to and from the station and Romford and Chadwell Heath is an easy commute into the city for work.@). How far is Harold Wood from the city then is that the next town up from Romford? I dont mind going out but I am not into all night drinking and partying I did all thta when i was younger and I am now 25! I think I will need to do a lot of reaserch about the area first as you ar right things could look very nice and survice and then by awful when I finally find somewhere to move into.
I ideally looking for a longer term investment as I intend to stay in the house for a good number of years and then move once we have started a family
Thanks for the information its much appreciated
