7 years and we still haven't been able/afford to take the stupid asbestos riddled stuff off every wall and ceiling in the house. We've had to self plaster those we have taken it off too as we're -skint-, never ever again. Only the hall/stair/landing to go...0 -

There were a few things with it that would put people off- a flat roof, flying freehold and a shared drive. But I was willing to overlook these faults if the house was right. We went in, and the internal was wonderful- until we started looking at the extension. The master bedroom was included in this, and was half sub-terrainean. I found a patch of damp. Then we saw the door in the dining room above wouldnt shut properly and hacked at to make it work (alarm bells definitely ringing). Then my OH's dad went and looked at the house from the back. Talk about a bodge job. He went up a wooden ladder and almost fell as the rungs were rotten! EA was hopeless, didnt know about certificates etc. However, OH's dad is a gas man, and said to her that the house cant do, because the boiler has an illegal flue. At this point she said 'well I'm the one that has to try and sell this property!'Just to add an extra nail, the entire sloped back garden had bad decking on it, a lane full of rubbish at the back, and there was evidence of rats!
Shame because the location was perfect, but it was too much work with the existing faults to even go for a 2nd look....
I agree about decking - it's not nice at all - and rats tend to nest under it!!:( It's very hard to kep clean too..........0 -
I have a bit of a 'thing' for victorian terraced/cottages.
Bought my first house (on my own) in 1992 and am on house no 4 now - which is where I plan to stayI agree with a lot of the no no's, ie pylons, shared driveways, flood areas etc, but the main thing my house MUST have is an upstairs bathroom
I currently live in a terraced house on a main road with a school at the back  but....it does have an upstairs bathroom, is in a village and I have a 36 foot front garden, and an 80 foot rear garden
I love my house :heartsmil0 -

I never thought I'd go for a house with a downstairs bathroom...but here I am buying a Victorian terrace in London with a downstairs bathroom and no driveway or front garden. You never can tell until you step inside the house!0
