Starter house (tiny, but a house for the sake of being in a house/not a flat)
Being on an estate, council or new.
Tiny kitchen with no space for dishwasher
Small bedrooms that can't fit a kingsize bed and a wardrobe
No storage
Bad location
Woodchip wallpaper - would not really put me off, but I'd detest the work involved to remove it
Everything else is ok and cosmetic. Couldn't care less for "horrible" carpets or curtains, I would not be buying the vendors and their bad taste, things like that are easily changed.0 -
I went to see a street where a nice but cheap looking house is for sale. I suppose I should have known it was cheap for a reason! When you walk down the street and there is litter everywhere, people have their wheelie bins padlocked to their railings, dog mess everywhere (in fact while we were there someone opened their front door to let their staffie have a dump in the street and of course didn't clean it up). Oh, and to top it off the house that was actually for sale had a smashed in window and possibly squatters inside (it is empty and newly refurbished according to the listing but there seemed to be a bit of a party going on inside!) Needless to say I won't arrange a viewing and the hunt continues.
Dirty, smelly carpets, overgrown garden, lack of central heating/ double glazing would never put me off a property - these are things I would enjoy sorting out myself, but I don't stand any chance of 'sorting out' the neighbours!0 -

Some of those tiny started houses are like little rabbit hutches, couldn't agree more. You also need tiny furniture too - some bedrooms won't even fir a normal sized double bed!:money:0 -

Lots of things here but also- when looking for a property I always do an internet search and make sure its not in a flood area. If it is then I would not touch it. I would be put off by a property with large trees growing close to the house, one built over a sewer and I would not buy a house built on an incline. (One of the reasons being getting the car home when it snows.) I don't mind being on top of a hill though.
Then I would make sure the roof was in good condition as roofs can be expensive and flats with management fees have to be looked at very carefully.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

Every house is a compromise on something on your list. I'd say you never know until you walk in and get a feel for the place...0
