What things would seriously put you off buying a property?

What things would put you off buying a property more than anything else?

I know we can never find the perfect property that ticks all the boxes, but there are some things that are definite turn offs. So I'm just wondering what yours are?:money:

I'll list mine later, but to try and get it started here's a list of things that I'm sure some people would find unappealing, and in no particular order:

Location: Dodgy area, on a busy road/High Street, ugly views, long way from public transport, remote area, built-up area etc

Parking problems

No garden, being overlooked, garden too big/small, decking, no lawn, north facing garden etc

Property too small/big, number of bedrooms, upstairs/downstairs loo, ensuites, number of loos/bathrooms, original features, fireplaces, size of rooms and cupboard space/ wardrobes fitted or unfitted, decor,

Kitchen traditional/modern, integrated appliances, worktops, seating area etc

Bathroom, bath size, shower, loo/bidet,

Noise, area, neighbours etc......

All a bit huggledy-piggeldy but you get the picture........

What things would seriously put you OFF buying a place?

A poor finish is very offputting and detracts from the overal feel of the property. I can see past decor, but don't want to have to spend time and money correcting someone else's slapdash work on the details - that would really irk me.

I agree about the north facing garden too - a nightmare for drying clothes!

Shared driveways - wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

    Downstairs bathroom a no-no.

    No bath, also a dealbreaker.

Has to be under a mile to station.

    No main roads.

No train tracks at end of garden.

    And some mentioned above :)

We went and viewed a shared ownership property this week and were seriously put off. The house was 6 years old, was priced at £65k for a 50% share and when looking round, one of the bedrooms had rabbit (or some other) poop on the floor!!!

The owners obviously couldn't give a monkeys about selling the house because goodness knows why you'd put a house on the market like that!!!

nb. The house was empty as the owners had moved out so no excuse for the dirt.

    structural defects

on street parking/ street littered with cars due to inadaquate drive way space for families

near trains/airport - flight path not so important

    busy roads

more than 15 miles from both our works

    neighbourhood

house being right at the front of the plot with 1 drive way space and
no access to back garden (often sold as a plus point with EA's "enclosed rear garden") is my number 1 pet hate - trapsing through the house with dirty bikes to the shed would be hell.

    shared drive also annoying

small rooms - rather have a 2 bed with good sized reception rooms than 4 bed with shoe boxes for receptions and even smaller bedrooms.

never thought about north facing garden before - i think ive bought an east/west - F+R garden .... ill go check now !

The idea that I may be forced into selling it when older, be it for care costs or some Government downgrade scheme.

Great thread! I think after living in various parts of the UK - both in towns and cities, comparing North and South - I've pretty much stamped out my fussy buying criteria.

I'd have to get something with potential. Preferably with a countryside view at the back and not being too overlooked. But that's about it. Oh I'd definitely want a driveway but it's not essential.

I think the big off-putting thing would be house size and room dimensions. Or going to a property that had already been 'done' with no potential.

    :D
