    Hi Guys
We are getting our solar panels installed today and are looking forward to joining in these discussions soonish.

Beat ya, even if by only 1 day! Whereabouts are you - I'm on the Hampshire coast?
  • Hi Silverwhistle
We too are on the Hampshire coast, Southampton! Bit rubbish weather today for our installers. Sun is shining now though.

Day yield 18.61 kWh (or approx. 50% over pvgis forecast for a typical August day).

Fairly heavy overnight rain (500 litres collected) ensured panels were nice & clean when sun arrived and a quick shower later on cooled them down a bit to continue the good work.

Composite view of my three online 'local forecasts for tomorrow reads a bit like one of Tunnel's ! It might be cloudy early but could be sunny. Probably some rain in afternoon which will be either heavy or very light. Watch this space for an 'out of the window' update.

Bet you wish you had a 4kWp system, on them figures you'd be asking for donations to top you up to £800 for the 1/4....

You must be 'on a roll' at the moment with your phychic powers. At the time, the extra £3K was over budget; with hindsight....if I knew then what I know now, and all that...... :(

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

My 'favourite' is when we have a 1kW surplus - so OH switches on washer, dishwasher and cooker all at once ! Guess we really need some sort of audible alarm driven by Wattson etc.

  • Hi
The install went well, on our first (part) day we generated 2.57 kwh. We now are waiting for our energy assessor appointment. We would also like to get a gadget that displays information. I have looked at a wattson as I saw it mentioned on here, but need to check with our installer as to what will work with our system. Pouring rain for now

    Hi sleepy..

Not a bad day, Saints won, but pretty poor generation! I had an Owl-pv installed which monitors my usage and I monitor via my PC. Seems to do the job I want it to..

By 10am this morning, all three forecasts had agreed that we'd have heavy rain from 1300-1900. Metcheck (the only ones to put numbers to rainfall) suggested we'd get 8mms of rain in that period.

What actually happened was that we had a short heavy shower lasting only a few minutes around 1300 and a slightly longer period of drizzle around 1900. I doubt we actually got 1mm altogether. Several (un-forecast !) sunny spells during the afternoon had us peaking above 2kW. Day yield was 8.37 kWh about a third less than pvgis forecast but more than double what the weather people left me expecting.

Not sure whether to be pleased or worried that tomorrow's forecasts are predicting lots of sunshine. Anything might really happen !
