First Utility keep emailing me wanting to fit a smart meter.
Is this something I would want?, and would there be any issues with my solar panels.
    Does this affect export tariffs?.
    Hi

Smart-meters probably represent the biggest 'pulling the wool ...' trick ever performed on governments (& therefore consumers) with the likely outcome of achieving little more than to bolster energy sector margins .... did anyone ask you whether you'd mind paying an extra £500 (average cost per household) through your energy bills for an unnecessarily premature replacement meter when you've already been paying for maintenance & regular replacement through your energy bills for years ? ..... £500 ? ... yes just under that for meters which cost just a small fraction of that sum, and that's for something which can't possibly achieve the stated goals without further consumer expenditure and the introduction of extortionate punitive peak-time tariffs (aka 'the big stick') to further line the industry coffers .... don't even think about the rolling out of meters which don't conform to the agreed cross-sector standard just to tick the boxes in the roll-out plan .. or .. or .,

You may have guessed by now, I'm no great fan of the smart-meter technology or the way that the project has been packaged and sold to an unsuspecting general public in such a devious manner ... :D

I am with you on that one Z; Smart Meters are going to cost every consumer a substantial amount of cash to cover their costs; are we still going to have to pay the so-called "Standing Charge'? As there is no meter in use, this should now be out of the equation. All this expense, down to the fact that most people are too damn lazy to read their own meters every month. Plus the fact; when a 'smart' is installed, there is no way the consumer has any way of checking if the metering is correct. I am going to refuse the installation of one until I am made to have one fitted..

Bestest day this April for me with 1.08 O's...I'm back in business...:D...coffee.gif

Hiya Oscar. Was it just a straight inverter swop? If so, how long did it take, as it'll be useful for us all to know what sort of effort, charge etc etc we can expect in the future on top of the inverter cost when they start to die (DAO - did an Oscar!)

    Cheers.

Hi Mart. Here is the saga...I first noticed that production had stopped on 26/03. Took a look at Wattson at Home; narrowed it down to 15:30 that afternoon. Searched the tinternet for an Aurora Inverter code E031; found it was a terminal illness (dead inverter). Spent a good time on Monday 27/03 trying to find UK contact for Aurora Power One inverters. Finally found they had been bought by ABB Electronics. Spoke to them, they were great! No messing about; they organised a replacement, free of charge, included fitting by one of their partner companies. The total time spent down was 17 days. They pay compensation for loss of generation, which in my case comes to £48.96p. I did ask if they offer any continuation of the 10-year warranty that comes with the earlier Aurora Inverter; apparently, they only offer a straight exchange for a cost of £450.00 inc. VAT; includes fitting & return and a further 1 yr warranty on the replaced unit; which I think is very reasonable. Bonus is; freephone number 0800. Hope this is enough info for you, this obviously, only applies to Aurora Inverters.....:)...coffee.gif

Edit: What is (DAO - did an Oscar!)?
