  • Well plumber contracted to scottish water arrived today and full pressure has been restored. Power shower to celebrate.
Dog sitting today so another lengthy walk this afternoon.
Have extended the service plan on my car as once its paid off have decided to keep for 5 years whilst i focus on the overpayment plan for the mortgage. 8 years and 8 months will take me to November 2020 if everything goes to plan. Close to making the second OP of £500, however fuelled the car right up to the brimm so this has meant an additional cost this month.
Where im able to i will walk to work this week and next. Coincides with my shed 2st target to get fitter:D
Off to hoard some 1st class stamps now.............:rotfl:

Well checked the budget calculator and am slightly better off this year.... Small payrise 2% so things are looking up.
Next OP this friday so only 8 years and 7 months to go now till MF.
Diet going well, the big weigh is 10 days away, short holiday to pay for (put it on CC) so will need to pay for it next month, might mean a lower op next month but we will see.:D

Spent the afternoon with my son in Edinburgh today. Fed and watered and then trainers and clothes were order of the day. Managed to print some vouchers for La Tasca so will use these next time (midweek) when we next meet up. \trying to get him to start saving some of his wage and also start a pension (sound like my dad, lol). got the train in (off peak) then found out i could have had it half price (March sale for Trainline):money its quite a good deal and worth checking out for the remainder of next month. Get paid in 12 days so ready to make the next OP, hopefully £6000 this year. My current fixed rate is 5.7% and im locked in for the next 6 years:(

Hi not sure if this will help but I was locked into my mortgage on a high rate. The buy out charge sometimes works on a sliding scale so it may not cost you loads to buy out of it ... Maybe worth investigating if you haven't already? Good luck! :o
    Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

Well, checked the erpc and it's 5% so effectively 10k to exit and remortgage.
On a brighter note, I phoned Natwest and moved my term from 20 years to 12 years with one quick call (paperwork being sent out). With some bonus payments hopefully thrown at it each year I should clear in 8 years. The mortgage term reduction means an extra £480 onto my monthly payment. So that's it. Focussing really hard. Some belt tightening. Made my £500 op again today, but now it's non negotiable as its now accounted for in the dd every month.
Suddenly 58 for retiring is looking like a possibility and a move to foreign shores and sunnier days. I'm so glad I found this site as its really inspired me after years of money wasting!
  • Hiya, I lurked on this forum for just over a year yep until starting up a diary in November 2011, best thing I ever did. I love the challenge of getting the most benefit from my/our money. I don't want to be frugal to the detriment of enjoying life, but equally I don't want to let it fritter through my hands as I did before. Thank you to :money:

    Good luck, Tilly

Just in from work, car was serviced last week as part of the service plan i had, however rear tyres will need replacing soon. Keeping my car for 5 years as part of my MF plan. Will be able to pay it off in April 2013, so will use the finance payments to go towards some more OP. Waiting for the new term mortgage payment to come thru the post. Have drawn out my remaining (spending) money for the month, will enable me to budget for the next 3 weeks till payday. It will be tight but where there is a will there is a way.:rotfl:
Car fuelled up so hopefully that will last, working my way thru the freezer and cupboards to limit the food spend this month.
Holiday coming up soon, cant wait..............a budget week in the sun.:j
  • Redone the sums and with new payment in place for the 12 year term plus 7% overpayment annually then i am OFFICIALLY MF in 6 years exactly. Year 6 would require a lump sum payment which i already have squirelled away. Realistically that means i have moved 14 years off my term.
Now comes the 6 years of hardwork and focus, but i know it will be fully worth it to own my home outright..........:j
Have opened an ISA today with what i could scrape together (£500) and dont expect to be able to add to it much in this tax year as everything is being channelled to the OP.
im continuing to save a few quid by walking to work and recently switched my utility bills from EON to EDF, so monthly payment has dropped, car tax due shortly so will budget for that next month by cutting the food bill by £90 for the next 2 months by raiding the freezer. Have clicked a bhol payment for working monday! :rotfl:

Well, enjoying a short break in the sun. Starting on some house mods next week, flooring and a fireplace. Will eat into the op but figure it will add value and more importantly it's my final house before I head off to the retirement home.:rotfl:
Anyway sticking to the plan will use this years bonus to make a good op in February. Hope to op £500 in June depending on how much the wood flooring and fireplace costs.
Bought the fireplace second hand and have a reliable joiner who will fit the flooring for a good price.
Have done the tobacco run (duty free) for the relations. Have kept the spending realistic for this holiday, so may return home with a few euros spare.....:)

Sun? Sun? What is this thing of which you speak?

Where are you? Regardless, I wish I was there! Enjoy the rest of your break.
