too late now but I would have tried getting rid of the dummy before the blanky !
a dummy can affect speech etc but a blanky doesntit just might not look very attractive lol
I agree with the buying a special dolly / teddy for her to take to bed
she only has her dummy from about 2 hours before she goes to bed till she wakes up so i didn't really see that as much of a problem0 -
Mine are 10 and 8 and still have "bed toys" which are cuddly toys that they sleep with. They have to stay in their beds - left over rule from the tears at bedtime if one was missing times! I don't see the harm in it to be honest. Here I go again on my own....0

Personally, I wouldn't give it back - she has already started to think it is gone so I would leave it be.
If you are going to get something else to replace it though I would suggest getting something cheap and perhaps buying two of them - you can keep the replacement in case the original goes missing or needs a wash etc. And if it is a cuddly toy, go for a small one that can be either washed or thrown in the freezer (in a carrier bag) over night occassionally to kill off any germs.
We did the Dummy Fairy too at about that age. I was so scared that we would never sleep again but it worked a treat and he never looked back.
I am sure if you keep praising her all day (and it sounds like her sister is great at that too) she will be fine. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
aw bless
the teddy or soft toy idea should be good and she'll soon get attached to that as well. I think part of it is just the shock of losing something she's used to but also for a 2 1/2 year old money doesn't really have meaning but I'm sure a new cuddly toy will. Try not to feel too guilty she'll soon get used to it.0 -
I'd agree with getting her a present. At 2 she's not old enough to appreciate cash. With the dummy I asked mine to give it to a 'little tiny baby who hadn't got any'. (my friends baby) which she did, so it was her decision to give them away, the dummy fairy came afterwards to scoop up any dummys we'd missed. Same as potty fairy, we encouraged her to use the toilet first and when she was doing so then the potty went.
As for your 6yo , if the worst comes to the worst, my 6yo says there's no such thing as dummy/potty/blanket fairies and only Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy are real-wonder why that is-lol:rolleyes:0 -
DD is 5 and still has a 'blanky' that she cuddles up too at night, well its actually a sleeve of an old jumper of mine that she snuggled up too when she was a baby and I have cut it in quarters and keep cutting it down until its virtually just a piece of cloth
I have told DD that the blanket fairy comes at 6 years of age, but even then I dont think having one is any bother, as long as she goes to bed at 7.30 and falls straight asleep with it im inclined to just let her have it until it falls apart :rotfl:0 -

My kids both had T-shirts they took to bed; DS dropped his of own accord when about 12 but DD still has hers and she is 16!!! in fact it has just returned froma schooll ski trip. When she has friends to stay the night you would be amazed at the assortment of cuddlies that come!
The only rule we had was that they were for bedtime and stayed in the bedroom. I would say put it back with a note from the 'fairy' saying something like that. Honestly she's 2 1/2 and I found my kids could go away overnight and feel something familiar and secure. I would say think again.
Im so glad someone else said this! My DS has a taggie blanket, hes loved tags on anything since he was tiny and its washed regularly but still never 'looks' clean, but i know it is and as it stays in the house i dont care. It is his comfort thing and always asks for it last thing before going to sleep.
Heck im nearly 28 and i still have a comfort blanket!!! Well i lost it when i left home so took a liking to one of DH's jackets so bought him a new one and cut the sleeves off the old one! Crazy i know!:rotfl: Recently my mum found my old baby one and took it over for me and had a good laugh when i go so excited about it!!
Just cant sleep properly without knowing its in bed with me! (shh even took it to hospital when having DS!!)Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
my youngest (nearly 8) still has his blankie and sucks his thumb  at bedtime.
i want him to stop sucking his thumb but he can keep his blankie!
we have changed his blankie over the years though. he used to have a baby sheet when younger but took a shine to some silky material i had bought one year to make haloween capes. so i took advantage of making sure i had 3 good size squares of it so i could keep rotating them to help prevent them getting too manky!
depending how you feel and how your little one is coping you could replace the manky blanky with a soft toy or a different type of blankie but buy duplicates so you can rotate and wash easier.
my middle son has a teddy and its in a worse state than any blankie i've ever seen. so teddies can still have the same mankiness!!!!0 -
A teddy may not be the right shape or texture: I know one little girl who was very attached to her Minnie Mouse, but actually what she liked was stroking the lable. Her mum sewed little ribbon 'tails' onto some other toys, and then she didn't mind which one she had.Signature removed for peace of mind0
