the blanket fairy came last night..

Options
my 2 and a half year old has the manky blanky ,shes had it since birth , it one of those things that no matter how many times you wash it , it never looks claen.
anyways last night i told her to put it under her pillow and a fairy would take it a replace it with treasure .
so in the night i took her blantket and put some money under her pillow, she woke up this morning , and is sooooo upset its making me feel really guilty, shes eating her breakfgast now put is still sobbing for blanky in between mouthfuls.
i can't give it back to her as my six yr old thinks a fairy did take it, i can't tell her it was me as she may lose faith in the tooth fairy.
i tried to give her another blanky that looks exactly the same but she don't want it.
really feeling bad any advise

How about taking her shopping today & letting her chose a bedtime teddy or something? There are bound to be tears again at bedtime when she goes to bed withoout her blankey, maybe it would help ease the pain if she has something new to cuddle?
Basically any treat, whether it's making biscuits with you in the kitchen or having a special lunch for being a big brave girl.

Good luck (it must be horrible for you so hears a (((hug))) )

yeah i was gonna say the same thing. my neice when she was little had the same kind of thing and my sis let her pick a special friend to go to bed with.

(i had to leave home before my mum was happy with me having a special friend! flipping double standards some parents have! :rotfl: )

if she picks a special teddy herself it might take her mind off the blanky.

My DS is 4 & still has his 'blanky' ! He tends not to take it now if we go out shopping etc, but it's a comfort at night for him still...! We often say to him 'Shall we throw that old smelly blanky away?' But he's having none of it! I think (HOPE) it's something he'll just grow out of eventually, on the other hand, my sister had a 'blanket bit' (yes that's what we called it - even though it was a silky piece cut from a pair of mums knickers !! lol) & she had it until she was about 12. Obviously she didn't take it out with her, but she used to love the feeling of it whilst drifting off to sleep!

As above, a new teddy may be the way to go. Good luck !
:D I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D

thanks for all your advice shes playing my little ponys with her sister at the minute, and when she metions the blanky, eldest is saying that you have to be abig girl to play with her and big girls don't have blankys.
    working a treat so far.
i know it will only last 10 mins before they start fighting
  • Why did you feel the need to take it? Because it looked dirty? My kids both had T-shirts they took to bed; DS dropped his of own accord when about 12 but DD still has hers and she is 16!!! in fact it has just returned froma schooll ski trip. When she has friends to stay the night you would be amazed at the assortment of cuddlies that come!

The only rule we had was that they were for bedtime and stayed in the bedroom. I would say put it back with a note from the 'fairy' saying something like that. Honestly she's 2 1/2 and I found my kids could go away overnight and feel something familiar and secure. I would say think again.

If you wanted to give it back, would your older daughter swallow the tale that you thought you were copying the tooth fairy but you didn't realise that tooth fairies had magic that made children happy to have their teeth taken in exchange for a gift (or some such other story). If you confide in your daughter what you have done and make yourself look so silly for having tried to copy, I would have thought you would get away with it.

    aww bless her :(

too late now but I would have tried getting rid of the dummy before the blanky ! :o

a dummy can affect speech etc but a blanky doesnt  it just might not look very attractive lol

I agree with the buying a special dolly / teddy for her to take to bed :)

maybe i would get away with it, i was proberly wrong taking it in the first place.
the reason i took it was it was so filfy no matter how many times i washed it . and in the last 6 months my daughter has had conjutivites ( sorry about the speeling) 4 times, and i thought it was something to do with the manky blanky.
i'm gonna see how it goes tonight with her new bear
