The grabby posts put me right off however I did ask for a front door someone was offering and then had to email them to explain my transport had fallen through-Bless him he delivered it and wouldn't accept anything for petrol.
I had a clear out recently and used our council's free large item collection. The divan got picked up but before they arrived a colapsed warddrobe, a big (non flatscreen) TV and a hoover missing the cylinder section all vanished within ten minutes from outside the house. I was happy as it left me short on my "three items" so I could put out more junk and presumably someone had something they could make use of.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I wanted to ask a freecycler for a couple of her items listed seperately but didnt in case she thought I was too cheeky-only things I genuinely had an interest in(no 42" TV-just garden tools for allotment)I like tothink we had simelar interest.had advertised things on free cycle with various measures of people collecting on time or just not turning up but overall positive experiences, met nice people and kept stuff out of landfill!:j0

This is standard practice in some areas of London (and in some quite upmarket areas).
You just place items that are not tip-worthy outside on the pavement and within a few hours they will be gone. Similarly, if you see anything you need you just help yourself. It's actually a very effective method of recycling.
I don't know about the legal implications but as it seems to be universally accepted, and has been going on for years, I would imagine that the police/CPS would have difficulty in bringing a 'theft by finding case' - as there is a general assumption that items placed outside have been intentionally 'donated' by their owners. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Had a few time wasters recently. Agreeing to pick up but not turning up.0

True, I've been doing it for years, rarely had to take stuff to the tip or charity shops etc. I just leave things I don't want outside my house knowing someone will be along to take them. I see stuff outside other houses as well with notices on saying "please take me home".0 -

Where I live, the implication is that if the stuff is on the pavement outside your house, it's ok to take it. If it's actually in your front garden, they will knock and ask. Unless they're thieves, in which case, they'll take it anyway!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
Joined my local freecyle group around 8 years ago and got thrown out after I sent a polite email to the group moderator explaining that I genuinely had nothing to recycle as I was in the process of setting up a new home after separation and homelessness.Reapplied two months ago and again three weeks ago as I now have stuff which is perfectly usable but which needs a new home.Heard nothing...Is this typical?0
