I've offered several items and sometimes had lovely folk who've thanked me and the ones who've pestered recieved and NOT thanked. The one who sent several abusive emails because the item I GAVE HER wasn't high spec - I gave the model number etc .she said her son needed said item, from her facebook profile (yes I'm sneaky sometimes ;)) her son was an infant and recently I saw her post a Wanted for items eg washing machine ,microwave etc for her daughter a new mum moving into her first flat Strange when the freecycler is, herself only mid twenties.
Isn't it a pity that a wonderful concept of sharing unwanted items is hijacked by *****

Our local Freecycle Moderator sent out a message last year asking folks to be a little more respectful AND realistic in their "wants". I have to say that our group seems generally to work very well - but there are ALWAYS "one or two" everywhere, I daresay...! Personally, I can't complain - I got a gorgeous nearly-new dollies pram via Freecycle for my toddler niece last year, which I KNOW will get many, many months (years, probably) of active and loving enjoyment from its new owner, and there's no way that I could ever have afforded to buy her a new dolls' pram. Happy days! :):)

Speaking for myself, I simply ignore the prats on Freecycle, and swap/exchange/whatever with the sensible folks.

    Keep smiling!

I've been banned from my local group.

I was offering a broken dishwasher as scrap or as a project for someone. Either way someone replied asking for it. I said great, we organised a time (later on in the day after I had stated that I couldn't do before as we were both at work). She gave me her phone number so I could text her my address. I replied fine, I would text her later. She then repeatedly emailed me throughout the rest of the day asking me for my address. I replied to the 7th email stating that I would not be giving her my address until a little nearer to the time as she knew that I was not in the house and 'anything could happen' (she knew the area I lived so it's not like she really needed to know. She then fired constant abuse via email of course and she then expected for me to still give her the dishwasher. Needless to say my reply was something along the lines of ... forget it.

She then reported me and I was banned.

    I can't say I miss freecycle.
  • Freecycle, keeping car boot sales full of tat since 2003.
  • We have a few similar local groups on facebook sale swaps and wants kind of thing, When My hamster died I had 2 bags of hamster food and half a pack of unused saw dust and I posted on the most local one saying what I had if anyone can make any use of it (for free of course) I didn't want to chuck it away. I had one person asking if I can deliver it and another asking if I had a picture lol I gave it to someone at work in the end. Ive also seen people asking for a puppy but they don't want to pay more than £100 and want certain breeds they will be lucky. We got a free set of bunk beds off freecycle just before we moved, all the bits there and in good nick I was chuffed to bits.

In a recent bulletin the same person was offering wood from an old fence, and asking whether anyone had a rabbit hutch they no longer wanted. Surely all she needed was nails and a length of wire mesh?

Fairly recently I offered a Freeview box. a bloke took it and then emailed me a few days later wanting me to take it back! Apparently it didn't give him access to the channels ehich he wanted!
  • Hi, I'm looking for a pram very rarely used travel system that can fit a maxi cosi baby seat in.
Willing to travel but looking for something barely used as it will be a gift. Thanks.

    Gotta love this one:rotfl:

I've seen ones asking for TVs that must be this that and the other. Or Wiis, various other gamestations - to me anything like that you count your lucky stars if somebody does put on, but they're not exactly cheap or essential.

That said I've seen cars given away on it (probs could have sold for £300, £400)

The ones just asking for a basic fridge/freezer/washing machine, even TV I don't see the harm, we've had a washing machine and a freezer that would've gone on if family/friends didn't want them. On the condition they don't expect something 6 months old and with all the posh features!

It's a shame you didn't give him Sky's number :rotfl:I considered Freecycle for my last big TV after giving two others away to friends and work colleauges but since it's ridiculously heavy and was a killer to get up the stairs, I think I'll pay John Lewis the tenner when the time comes and let them worry about it...
