  • This thread has got me quite intrigued as to what wanted posts I can find on our local freecycle so I'm off to have a nose!
  • We use the same FC group OP :)

Have noticed the wanted outnumbers the offers more and more, but I suppose we're all holding onto things for as long as they're useful now.

And yet I posted asking for used, empty glass food/ jam jars for a school fundraising project and got zero responses.I thought I'd get loads of responses, but nada!

I’m like you in that I wait for a few replies and usually attempt to pick the most worthy cause

I do pick at near random but I ignore the causes; in fact I'm more likely to give it to someone who emails the bare minimum and doesn't lay it on thick with a reason or background.

We can chat about it while we're lugging the whatever out of the house.

Maybe I'm gullible then :p..I gave a fridge and freezer to a single mum who was "just moving into a council flat". Perhaps it's better to pick the ones who are short and snappy.

Most were out as they didn't read my post properly, I asked politely for both fridge and freezer to be uplifted, but it didn't stop the emails coming thick and fast asking for only one of the items.

Another one said something like, "My husband brews beer in our garage, and a fridge would be perfect in there"..not exactly needy, I thought!
  • I generally gift to people offering a good home!

    Sob stories: Ignore.

    I will have: Ignore.

    Phone me: Ignore.

    Doesn't say please: Ignore.

    wants me to deliver: Ignore.

Just had a look at one of my local groups and someone wants flagpoles :)
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

    Or a laptop
    or a 42" tv

oh and one needed a dining table and chairs "urgently" as they were eating one at a time on the sofa, but it had to be pine!

Some people seem to have a rather weird idea of the purpose Freecycle. It's there to match people who have things they don't want with people who need things, not for supplicants to humbly beg from the ladies bountiful who deign to offer things that they would otherwise throw away.

Of course, people asking for a TV and stating it must be LCD and at least 42" are taking the 'p'. :rotfl:

    This in spades.

9 in 10 times I really don't care what they say or how they say it - if i'm on there it's because I want some tat out of my home - that's it, so it all comes down to when you can get here.

On that note, we do need a washing machine (2nd one broken this year :() so may head over now and plead poverty!!

FWIW a Kindle has recently been given away on Freegle.

If someone was not specific abut what they wanted then they are likely to get something that is not suitable for them and it may end up in landfill.

The ones that are just asking too much are likely to get ignored and if the group has a limit on wanted posts then they have just wasted one.
