Thanks for the advice Plushcris, so what are your findings then?
If your going to comment lets not talk conspiracy lets talk fact, again an attack on me, have i touched a nerve?
I am quoting findings from researchers on this, not spouting conspiracy drivel and attacking commenters on this forum.0 -
From what I've read about smart meters, they only transmit (this is when they would give off the RF) for 45 seconds to a minute each day as the readings are sent via a sort of SMS, this is nothing compared to mobile phones, laptops, wireless routers etc, which are on for most of the day. Also most meters are either outside (where it far less of an issue) or inside in a cupboard situated away from the main living area, the "danger" from RF drops of dramatically the further away you are from the source, hence the problem with mobile phones as they are right next to your head when you use them. Unless you are sitting in the cupboard with your head pressed against the meter when it sends the reading then the danger from the meter is far less than a mobile where you could be on the call for minutes at a time.
One of the reports I read said you would have to live with a smart meter in your home for 1000 years to get the same level of RF radiation the average mobile phone user gets in a month.
You may want to stop your children going to school if the school has a WIFI network as they will be getting RF radiation from that all day long. Take away their mobile phones if they have them too.
If you think its causing you ill health, ask your doctor to write you a note to that effect to send to the power company to get it removed. My guess is no doctor in their right mind would write such a note but its worth a try..Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
As the US marines say, improvise, adapt, overcome...I just nick the meters now, set up a company selling smart meters to utilities ha ha!
:rotfl:
I can't imagine that either any of the electricty suppliers or the British Government will agree to remove or abandon smart meters unless there is some serious scientific evidence produced to show there are significant risks.
Personally I would have thought there are already as much or greater risks in homes from tv,s pcs, mobile phones etc than a smart meter was likely to produce.:doh:0 -
Tinnitus - Sorry, Ringing in ears which just started happening round about same time meter was installed, although i never put the 2 together. Apparently some people are sensitive electrical fields maybe I am!. All i know is I have never had problems with my ears before and yes maybe it's just coincidental.
No not a wind up, read the info on these sites - both dot org at the end

the mind boggles because you don't know the facts, why would an energy firm supplier tell me they are holding off smart meters because of health risks?
Who is your supplier?0 -

I have said it before on this forum, people in my office would be dead if smart meters gave off such bad radiation. half of us have a smart meter wired up with an active sim a few cm from our computers. Just to give an example the oldest meter we have constantly turned on is an 2002 Elster smart meter that's never been turned off.
I'm sorry but half the suppliers do not have the slightest clue when it comes to smart meters. I recently called the 'big six' asking if i could transfer to get a smart meter, each one gave me stupid reasons why they arent fitting or tried to explain what smart meters are to me.

Not sure If i should mention suppliers really as, they are one of the biggies though.
To test the meter I will switch off all my electrical appliances wi-fi, phones etc so i isolate the meter. If my meter reads excessive amounts in my living space using a RF Meter then its
The meter may prove you all right but having read the reports I think i'd be a fool not to check for myself. Also having seen video evidence of these meters being checked online with excessive readings lets see if the vids are correct eh!
I'll let you know either way, if anyone is interested in the readings.0 -

RE post #27..what sort of RF meter will you be using?
One of these might do the job but it costs a few quid..

That may be because no such thing as a Smart meter is being installed yet, they are all TRIAL meters until such time as a specification for Smart meters is agreed which is yet to happen.
Wrong.
Any mpan over Profile Class 5 (&00) are mandatory to have smart meters by 2014.
thought you would know that as you are an IT consultant for the big six.
D0313 flow has been introduced for a while..
Also, amazing how any Half Hourly customer can change their supplier at will and still other DC/DR can read the same smart meter.
Also to the OP. if the meter is really annoying you, rather than having it removed encase the meter in a steel cage, will do almost the same as having the meter replaced for a dumb meter.Working within the gas and electric industry since 2008'0
