Everyone asks why the last person left and how long they had been there. I do. Wouldn't you think it odd if they had only been there 3 weeks and walked out? Not that they would probably tell you they had walked out but they have to be honest and say they had only been there a short time and maybe got another job or something else.
Does it really matter? If the OP is offered the role, they can accept and still look for another job. It would be income at least, and there's a lot to be said for working locally!

...he found something more worthy of his degree?

I ask you, you'll need to have a degree for shelf filling soon.

Good luck OP, fingers crossed they see sense. Presumably they knew you had no degree as it wasn't mentioned on your application they previously had!

OP good luck I hope you get it.

I've never asked this. There is no point as if there is any issues they could just lie anyway. Waste of a question.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

In the same way as when you buy a house, you don't ask what the neighbours are like?

In both cases, you don't ask the question so much for the answer itself as for the delivery of that answer.

I would suspect the degree question was just something on a list. OP may be more worried about it than the interviewer.

Well that was quick, I got a phone call this morning, didn't get the job. I was really shocked the guy phoned, I wasn't expecting to hear anything to be honest for a brief moment I got excited, I mean they don't usually phone to tell you that you didn't get the job, I knew it would be to good to be true to get a job so close to home for someone who doesn't drive, he explained someone with more experience got it. So back to the drawing board which is all but blank. Really annoyed to be fair, When he phoned yesterday I foolishly got my hopes up again, I really need to stop doing that, it only sets you up for disappointment.

Very true, nothing as worse as that waiting to hear.
