Need to find 15.6 laptop with nipple and 1920 resolution

Hi custardy,
Yes just use it for browsing really. That's the frustrating thing, I really just need a basic laptop - even a netbook would be fine BUT they don't do big enough screens, and I'm afraid I just hate massive resolutions it drives me mad!
I have a Xoom tablet which I use for certain web browsing, really where I am just playing around and clicking on the odd site without typing much. That is great for that purpose.
However if I am shopping for something and therefore doing a lot of typing in different sites, I find a tablet too cumbersome. Which is where my laptop comes in (and I do quite a lot of shopping!)
Don't want less than 15.6" screen as that is what I have now and am used it - anything less looks too small for me. Don't really want larger either as it's then a bit weighty for sitting on your lap. Also I may well restart matched betting at some point, where I will really need a decent screen space, as need to be able to fit various different things on screen for that.
I just can't get over the lack of options available, I'm sure when I bought my last laptop there were plenty to choose from, yet now there's almost none.0 -
think the problem for you is/was the drive to netbooks and now tablets.
so less market for your price range/spec0 -
What's wrong with the old one, and why do you need that resolution - 1st post says you want 1920, then subsequent post says you hate high resolutions?
Touchpads should be easy to get used to, what was the difficulty?!!

I'd never thought of it like that custardy, yes I guess a lot people would go down the tablet/netbook route nowadays, which would maybe explain the lack of choice in the laptop arena now
closed - my existing laptop has finally given up the ghost, 2 days ago the screen went. All lines and odd characters appeared on it, and when restarting, it won't boot into Windows. I guess the graphics card has gone?
It's needed replacing for a while as it was getting on a bit, but what has stopped me from changing it has been the inability to find anything to replace it. But now I have no choice.
I don't 'need' the resolution to be fair, it's just I can't stand big resolutions, I think they look terrible. My work laptop has a large resolution and it's awful. I am very much used to my nice high resolution and can't imagine having to put up with a lower one, they just look untidy and awkward to me. I'm a bit OCD on certain things and I think it would drive me mad having to use a low resolution one at home all the time.
But custardy may well be right, the popularity of netbooks and tablets looks to have stopped company's from producing decent res screens for the most part.0 -
1920x1080 is high resolution for a 15.6" screen, so your requirements are a little confusing
1366x766 (or thereabouts) 15.6"'s or similar are commonly available, cheaply, if you can get over the touchpad issue (why can't you use them, they are far more accurate/easy to use than a nipple)
does safe mode work, do you have an external monitor to try with the old machine?!!

I'm doing just that as I type this reply and have a mouse (laser tracking) which either tracks on the arm of the leather sofa or, at the moment, across the back page of the Telegraph colour supplement. Microsoft also market them as Blue Track
I agree that trackpads are a pain but a mouse that tracks over various surfaces (inc the Logitech M505) is ideal. The micro usb receiver can stay in place all the time as it only sticks out by about 5mm.
At present the Microsoft 3500 Blue Track is on offer at Currys/PC World at around £14 (or less if pink is ok for you) and is what I am using right now (except I paid less than that).
Definitely worth a try which means you are not tied down to a limited tange of laptops.0 -

Yes there are loads of 1366x768 resolutions but i want the higher ones - 1920 x 1200 (my old laptop has this) or 1920 x 1080 would do.
I know it sounds daft to say I can't manage with a touchpad, but I really have tried. i even bought a brand new laptop a couple of years ago, great bargain and nice high res screen. Told myself that everything else about it was perfect so I should be able to get used to the touchpad.
But despite persevering with it I couldn't get used to it, hated the touchpad. Ended up having to get rid of it.
My old laptop won't start at all now, not even in safe mode, so think it has had it0 -

Think its the LARGE ICONS & TEXT on smaller resolutions the OP hates! so wants a larger resolution to make them smaller. ^_^Laters
