Im having a hard time at work at the moment, i work in a supermarket for the last 2 years i've been contracted on nightshift 8pm -6am 3nights a week +plus overtime, work's been quite slow of late so I had to take on a daytime delivery work to help, problem im having is the supermarket for the last 3 weeks keeps moving my shifts about last minute, like tonight i turn in for work just to be told to go home and be in a 3pm tomorrow (my day off),and instead of getting 3 night shifts im getting my min 30hrs all over the place this week over 2 night and 2 days, and this looks set to continue untill the summer at least, my delivery job is flexible and I do need it while there is no overtime as it keeps my car on the road, but the odd shift pattern is taking its toll and im now suffering insomnia quite badly.
I've the understanding that I have the right to my 30 hours but as a contracted night worker do I have the right to my contracted night's or can they keep shifting me on to the dayshifts as and when they please as im also down on wages due to losing my "night rate" which doesn't help when im making a wasted trip into work just to be sent home

hello. didn't want to read and run.
it sounds wrong, but am not sure and will also depend on your contract/type.
hopefully, some experts will be along soon.
but, meanwhile, are you in a union? otherwise, ring ACAS and ask them for some advice.0 -
Why didn't they atleast have manners and let you know they have changed your shift, I am sure it wouldn't have taken 2 minutes to ring you.
Gosh if that was me I would be seing the manager before going home asking him to pay me for turning up for work or something.
You wasted time, energy and money to go to work only to be turned away thats wrong so wrong. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
What does it say in your terms and conditions? If there is nothing I am sure that they have to give you 24 hours notice to a change in shift and if they haven't you are entitled to work that shift and obviously get paid for it.0

This is the rubbish I don't like, people are getting away with not treating internal customers they way they treat external customers. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
People have the rights in their contract. Do not be scared of an employer because that's why you think you have no rights!onceuponatime wrote: »Scarey isn't it. I think she means as a businees you cant treat your customers like !!!! but you can the staff! Staff will rarely stand up for themselves where as customers will go elsewhere. Got you over a barrell so to speak.onceuponatime wrote: »Not quite sure what you mean but its the external customers that pay your wages end of.0 -
