How much for brake pads and shoes?

I was told years ago that when it comes to brakes and tyres that you spend on those and save money on underpants."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

What are you on about?
It's a thread on changing pads, discs, and shoes.
So if you're not including the time to do all the jobs the op had done, no wonder it's faster. It's a bit pointless for the op though.
I've done all three, that's what the realistic time is for.
If you don't change any of them, I could do it in no time at all.
Just to remind you though, as you clearly don't read well.
You're avoiding the subject. I've never mentioned in any of my posts that I have done shoes.
You're a liar and you won't admit it.0 -

How can I be a liar, if you're quoting the time to do it to the op?
If you never have, that's probably why you're giving lousy advice them.
Stick to something you know about, and stop making things up?
If you've forgoten your advice, read my quote of you in post#24 to jog your memory.0 -

Yes, but back to my point. Where have I said that I have done shoes (which you have accused me of)?
Don't dodge the subject. Have I said it, yes or no?0 -

I'm not dodging it.
I said in the last post you where spouting rubbish without having a clue what you're on about.
You've clearly never been near a set of drum brakes, but are happy to invent a time a garage could do it in purely from your imagination and plucked a figure from the air, which doesn't help the op in the slightest.
Happy now?0 -

How about, you admit, that nowhere have I said that I've done a set of shoes?0 -

You have never ever done shoes.
I have never ever said you have done shoes.
You probably don't know what a shoe looks like.
You are an armchair mechanic with no idea how to do shoes, and no idea of the time it takes, so it's very clear I know you can't possibly have done shoes, and certainly I wouldn't dream of saying you had.
I sincerely apologise if I have said or implied I thought you were capable of doing them, as I don't believe you are, and couldn't possibly have done them.
Your only claim to fame is you can do front pads in an hour, so reckon a garage could do discs, pads, and shoes in an hour and a half.
Clear enough?
edit - as you appear to read about as well as your ability to provide estimates, I'll quote my first response to you again................................... even though you haven't actually done the discs or shoes)
So nowhere have I said you have done them, right from my first post.
So anything else you decide to make up, I'm ignoring, and let the thread get back on track with some credible responses.0 -
ebay sell discs and pads for mine for £30.
Dealer price is £90, trade is £65 collected.
Local motor factors delivered to me is about the same.
And no, I wouldn't put the £30 ones on, there's moneysaving, and there's just too good to be true.
I bought a set of the £30 discs/pads last year.
The discs were Comline, the pads Allied Nippon.
The latter are actually a Japanese OEM and reasonable quality. The discs are standard cheap parts, but no different to the base quality ones you'd pay £50 for down the factors.
They went on the car and have been no trouble,0 -
That's impressive.
Most places will charge £30 to £40 just to change the oil.
Service labour and all the brake work for £70 is about an hour and a half at my indpendent, and it took them an hour just to change the back pads when I didn't have the time, let alone shoes.
He is very good, came highly recommended by a friend and a family member who use him. Only prob is he is only a tiny garage with just himself and can take a while to get stuff done. Think my whole bill was £300 and in that I had the disks and pads, I think he cleaned up the shoes as they didn't need replacing, sorted my handbrake, changed a broken coil spring and full service inc oil, filters etc and he took it for its mot too which was included in that cost.0 -

They're the best type, one you can trust to do the jobs that need doing, and not do ones that don't.0
