I should be leting you do mine if you can do them that fast, and get them cheaper than any trade price I know.

The wife's car is a C3 (08 plate). It takes me, max, an hour doing it on the front drive (front pads). That's using my cheapy trolley jack and axle stands and piffling about with a G-clamp (to wind the calipers back in).

If I can do that in under an hour, I expect a garage with ramps to be able to do it in half an hour. I've not done the rear brakes, but I'd reckon on an hour and a half for front and back. Three hours is taking the p1ss.

I can buy a set of front pads, Delphi, for £20 including VAT. I know the motor factors I go to, sells their cheapest rubbish pads (trade) for about £12.50 .

Pads and discs in an hour, and shoes in half an hour.
I'm definitely letting you do mine.
I've spent an afternoon getting drums off before now, and then had to replace the adjusters that were seized solid and stopping the shoes going back in.
(If you check, they didn't even charge as much as £20 for the pads, it was shy of that by a few pence, so at least you agree that price was fair, and it's just labour you can do faster, even though you haven't actually done the discs or shoes)
  • Price about right IMO.

I haven't done the rear shoes on a C3 but wouldn't mind betting they are similar to the 106/Saxo rears, and they were a fiddly time consuming job to replace, and were quite expensive for good quality pattern parts.

Some of the prices quoted above are for rubbish i wouldn't dream of buying, you will not buy quality parts from the likes of Mintex or Delphi for that money.

Discs pads shoes roughly £120+ from a good factor for good parts, and i expect the garage to make something on the parts too, you wouldn't expect a main dealer to let you have them for the price they paid would you.

Only way to save money on this type of work is to do it yourself.

    Please don't misquote me.

What I said was. I, on my front drive, without a hydraulic ramp, could do front pads in an hour, easy. What I also said was, a garage should be able to do front and rear (with a hydraulic ramp and all tools to hand) front and read in an hour and a half.

Nowhere did I say that you could do shoes in half an hour and certainly not on a front drive. As for your snide remark, yes, I have done the discs, it's a very straightforward job. If you know so much about car maintenance I'm surprised that you haven't done them yourself, it's a very basic job.

    I've done all three jobs.
That's why I've put a serious time down for the job, and why I'll let you do mine, as you reckon you're twice as fast.
(Well, nearly 4 times faster than the last shoes I actually did)

Pads and discs all 4 wheels, on a Vectra, cost me around £180, arrange by a friend who works there, done in 1 hour, they squeezed me in on a busy day.

    Guess you can't.
The job the op had done included doing the back shoes.
