motability have confirmed to myself & many others that a carer using a motability car to travel to work is perfectly acceptable because it is benefiting the disabled person is several ways, most importantly it means the carer is immediately available should they be needed to attend to the disabled person, unlike if they needed to rely on public transport to get them back home to pick up the motability car sat idle outside the house then drive to the disabled person...........THAT would fly in the face of "the spirit of what the vehicle was intended for" imo

I accept what you at at face value LORRY, with the proviso that you are the first person I've ever ever come across to offer anecdotal evidence that the Motability scheme confirmed agreement to this loose interpretation of "for the benefit of" third party use.

You may be correct, there may be many others that I have missed, I'll pay much more attention to this over the next several years as the new BB & Motability reform rules roll out. I'll monitor it and get back to the group over the next several years.

    NOTE:

Many in this group over the years have argued for this interpretation - you are as far as I can recall the only one to confirm an affirmative conversation actually took place with Motability.
Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Try re-reading post #10 for more confirmation from the OP and clearly another one that you've "missed".
    - ok ! - I'm happy with that - however .........

I'm wondering why a dormant 'nym' with a join date of four years ago [03-06-2008], make no posts in the last 12 months then pops up within days of Andy&Flo being banned for the 99th time ?

    - do you have any ideas why that might be [STRIKE]Andy[/STRIKE] 'buzzarmstrong' :D

No idea who Andy&Flo is. As you clearly state I have not been an active poster. Perhaps I only post when I have something valid, useful and knowledgeable to post? Your last post now appears to concede that other's have also been told by Motability what I originally stated before you decided to pull the trigger on your moral shotgun.

To satisfy your curiosity I stumbled across this thread via the internet looking for something else and to be honest I've also no idea why you are comparing me to a banned member simply because you disagree with what I have posted?

I've managed to sort all this out and work out a way that my going to Uni will have a direct benefit for my son. I'm going to study medicine. How is this of benefit? Well since nobody can tell me what is actually wrong with his kidneys and I'm being left to monitor him myself, I better go and get educated on how to do it properly. Thus solving the whole issue.

We also picked a lovely peugot 5008.

I also don't know why there is arguing about a blue badge, I'm not applying for one. We have no need for it right now, there is plenty of parking spaces anywhere we go.

I too must second what the poster lorry said.

We have been told exactly the same thing by motability that it is perfectly acceptable for my wife to use my sons motabilty car to go to work.

In our case this enables her to travel to the special school he attends to collect him when he falls ill , without having to travel the 12 miles between work and home by some other method to collect a car first.

So some people may disagree with it, and for the fact that he gets escort provided transport by minibus to and from school, but i really think there are more important things to worry about in the world.

of course there are always more important things to worry about in the world when one isn't paying for it oneself ;)

Do you think I should tell Soapn that we went to the science center the other day and got in for free because Master T was in his wheelchair?

The wheelchair we also got for free.

Also we got a parking token for free.

excuse me, I have a differing opinion to you, that does not make me a troll. You sound like a kid in a playground shouting troll troll troll.

I was also told by Motability that taking the car to work was fine, I asked about collecting my daughter from school and they said that was fine too, the only thing they'd have an issue with is using it for business purposes or having it at a different address from my son.

I think the issue is, where the HRM belongs to the child Motability accept that the car has to be a family car, otherwise the family would have to a) pay for other transport on top of losing HRM or b) not get a Motability vehicle in the first place (therefore depriving the disabled person of the use of the car!).

As I love pointing out we currently use taxis on the taxicard scheme which means the taxpayer pays for us twice (HRM + Taxicard subsidy), we pay and cost a lot more than we would were we using the Motability scheme, but never face the wrath that people with a brand new car do - wonder why that is, eh? :rotfl:
