Morning all,
Today is Operation Pond. We’ve had several unexplained fatalities recently (not sure if I mentioned these), which is rather concerning. No visible signs of disease on the fish (dead or alive) and the water tests ok (you can get test strips that test for chemical imbalance ). So we’re a bit stumped. Last week we treated with a supportive tonic, but have had two more deaths since then. So All the fish are coming out today and we’ll clean and refill the pond. The weather could be better - wet from midday... hence the early start.

Don't forget to go and have a drink and possibly a meal in the pub - just hanging out in there late afternoon will give you some insight into whether the locals use it, whether it is a happy place, and any gossip you might need to hear! Later night presence will give an idea of possible noise and disruption, and their website or reviews might give further insightsSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Thats a really good idea from SL. Sorry to hear about the need for Operation Pond, madvix, but the house hunt is definitely going forward isn't it. Enjoy your Sunday, if not too soggy.

Ohhh this house sounds very exciting, and a very sensible suggestion about checking out that local pub too and getting a vibe for the area
Fingers crossed you get a good offer from the Open House too!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Thanks all. Good call on the pub SL! I’m sure we can force ourselves up there for a drink one evening. It’s a fairly posh Gastropub so doubt the noise will get too much (and it’s a fair way away from the house anyway). Will be good to assess the locals though 😉 Very hard to tell about community at the moment - the village hasn’t got a website and obviously all events are cancelled. There’s an infants school and preschool and village hall... more than that, I’ve yet to ascertain.
Operation pond is now complete, perfectly timed to avoid the rain. We found one of our original big fish had perished and was rotting/half eaten at the bottom of the pond. 🤢 He may well have died from old age and polluted the water enough to cause the other deaths. Oh, it was grim, and DH did the netting and burial, so I didn’t even have to get too close/look. The whole garden stank ( i even lit a scented candle in the garden!). Anyway it’s all done now and time for lunch. Looking forward to a nap in front of the Grand Prix!

We once came home to a mass extinction and used the water on our rhubarb and the following year we had a fantastic crop. We went up to the house/area several times throughout the week before we put in an offer to checkout if there was problems ie noisy kids, mine didn’t need the competition 😉.

I bet the rhubarb loved it! We don’t need *more* prolific rhubarb though! 🤣
Think noisy kids/neighbours is highly unlikely - house is right on edge of village facing outwards towards a footpath. Not a big village either - 549 houses or thereabouts. Will certainly be returning before putting in an offer though.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

We ended up visiting one of the houses we offered on near midnight one night
It was high on a hill above a touristy village, and had a few pubs and even a nightclub, so having been plagued with noisy neighbours in our old house we just wanted to check... As it happened, it was fine near midnight - but another day when we went there was loud music from a hotel booming all around the valley... Apparently it was a one off family party as they were selling the hotel, but it did rather put us off (on top of other things that put us off - we withdrew our offer in the end, but they'd never actually taken it off the market anyway so...).
Urgh to the fish though, glad it's all sorted and rather more fragrant now...8
