Couldn't agree with you both more . If he had any integrity he would have resigned quietly ..5

Couldn’t agree more. I hope (but doubt) that’s the statement is one of resignation. I don’t vote for Boris (would never have brought myself to), but felt that into this the government has been doing the best they could in extremely unusual circumstances. Now they’ve lost all put my goodwill and trust. As you say Busy Mee - everyone else was expected to manage and police would have fined anyone else with such a flimsy excuse for travel. Oh, it makes my blood boil!!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Morning Vix, I was fuming listening to his speech yesterday! I think this will have an impact on lockdown as risk is reduced more now and all those following the rules still anyway, may well question that. It shouldn’t effect most of our neighbours though who have done whatever they like all the way through 😡
They should have let some NHS workers ask him questions too as well as journalists!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
I was fuming too NG. He just didn’t seem to get that everyone has been following the spirit of the law not the letter of it, except him!! Can’t believe he’s still there. Can just see the R number going up at the next review. 😔

Looks like you spoke too soon Jimmy - a minister has just resigned over the failure of Cummings to resign. Good to know someone can see what he did wrong in government.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

When it was announced he was making a statement it seemed to me he was going to try and justify his actions and of course that is exactly what he did. Several elements do not stand up to any level of scrutiny.
- Threats at his London house - yeah right - there were so many people out on the streets in lockdown, he must have felt really threatened.
- His nieces offering to help - so if he chose to rely on them, why didn't he ask one to either drive or take a train to London?
- He drove. He left his home with someone who was already ill and drove over 250 miles - we only have his word for his lack of symptoms at that point, suggesting he collapsed the following morning (unusual with no prior symptoms?) but in any case, his vehicle could have had a mishap, he could have become ill, emergency services could have been called upon and placed in a position of elevated risk.
- They went to Barnard Castle. How lovely for them... An issue for medical advice I think if your sight has been affected, and since we are told he had already sought some. I read that his wife can drive and a tweet suggests that is the case - a (Sunday Times) journalist called Rosamund Urwin.
- I think the main thing for me was the "me, myself and my" focus. We're all in this together. Apparently.
I also think that while people are talking about the way this undermines the messages they are attempting to persuade us to follow - there are a significant number of people sitting thinking, "well if there are loads of people out spreading the virus, I will just stay in longer. I will not be joining them." That is an awful lot of people not rejoining the economy and no longer going out and spending. No longer needing a new car, new clothes, visiting bars or restaurants, going out with friends. I think the danger to the government is a lot bigger than a bit of reputational damage.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Morning all,
So having done my work yesterday, I have none to do this morning. I have, however, watered the garden and even remembered the poor apple tree in the front garden (which had a whole can including some food). Niece has been unwell over the weekend and now has a rash, so Sis is taking her to hospital this morning (on advice of GP). Hoping it's just a childhood virus and she'll be feeling much better soon. Poor thing. As we're near the hospital, I've offered my services should she need anything. I expect it'll be the quickest A&E visit my Sis has ever made, and hopefully they'll send her home reassured, so I doubt they'll need me for anything.
Meeting a friend for a walk later which should be nice (as long as it's not too hot/busy where we're going) and we're hosting the quiz we did for my family on Sunday for DH's family tonight. Had a lovely BBQ and catch up with friends last night - they've finally settled into the idea of working from home and spending more time with their daughter. When we spoke to them a few weeks ago they seemed to be very fed up with everything, even though they have it very good. It was good to see that they are happier now.
I decided (eventually) to have a small supermarket delivery on Thursday as we need cat litter and to switch to salad and fruit bags from R'ford for this week. The R'ford delivery works out more expensive, but the contents will last more than a week and we've saved on the supermarket stuff. I need to run down the freezers/fridge a bit this week. DH will be eating turkey curry tonight!

Update, Niece is fine. They think it's 'just' a virus (we all know that nothing is 'just' a virus these days) and as long as her temperature stays down she should be fine. So glad!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
