    Afternoon all!

    I made £34.20 on Saturday at the boot sale; we took off the money for sister's things and split the proceeds, so £80-odd in total was pretty good. We were bemused by the man who turned up opposite us about an hour after we were permitted to start setting up, who then spent another hour cleaning a coffee machine before he even got most of his stuff out..... he then complained to us at the end that it was a 'bad spot' because he'd only just broken even (partly because he bought a hot dog from the Scouts!!).

    Other than that, we had a lovely weekend, mainly spent being fed by BIL & GF, with small contributions of food for me. We did go for a walk on Sunday morning, which ended up at the pub. But I think that was the only major spend.

    Today I am 'on call' - Mum and Uncle are aiming to get Nan into the home they've chosen for her. But Nan has to be persuaded to leave the house first (she thinks they are getting work done on the house and has to move for a short time, but that's not persuading her at the moment either). So the day is rather in limbo, as if they manage to get her out I may have to 'Nan-sit' for a bit, or do other errands for them

    I've got two loads of washing on the line and have just noticed it's chucking it down outside.... oh well!

    MS things:
    * Lots of meals elsewhere this weekend, so veg box for this week cancelled as we've barely touched it
    * VB/SBs/MS rewards (nearly at cash out there :) )

    Gratitudes:
    * Lovely times spent with family and friends over the weekend
    * Enjoyable (if hot) walk with DH on Saturday
    * Spotted a goldfinch in the garden this morning - we hardly ever have interesting birds, so very pleased to see him!
    * Springwatch is back :j

    Have a good afternoon all, hope it's not too stormy with you!

    Sounds good! But ouch to the backup of being on NanWatch - I'm glad for your sake you don't have to take point on that.

    Yay to boot sales and goldfinches :)

    Yup, I'm glad I wasn't taking point on that too. She's in, but has disowned us all in the process... just had the 'stand-down' call from Uncle. :( All I can say at the moment, is good luck to the staff! (It seems like a lovely place and once she's calmed down/forgotten it'll be lovely to visit her there - she's got a nice room, it's all brand new, there's a cafe and a little shop and hopefully the company will improve her mood too.) It's also much closer than her house, so I hope to see her more often, assuming she forgives us. :(

    Am glad that you're all united (well, except for Nan!). Difficult times but good you're all in it together.

    We have a little flock of goldfinches near us, they are lovely :)
    A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    Thanks Gally :) We're a pretty close-knit family, which is nice. Nan apparently ventured out of her room for dinner on Tuesday and breakfast yesterday (impressed with the options, I think). Mum's going to visit with sister and magic niece (Nan's face just lights up at seeing her) this morning, so more updates then. I might pop in later or tomorrow, depending on how things go.

    We never get interesting birds in our garden - the occasional sparrow or starling but mainly wood pigeons and magpies, so it was a real treat to see a goldfinch - they're so beautiful!

    Morning all,

    In exciting news...... we made an OP of £1000 last night :D This was a combination of DH's savings (his latest payrise seems to have made a huge difference to how much we're able to save, probably coupled with improved earnings for me recently) and some share money where the shares had tripled in value. There ends our OPing for the year (probably). We've hit our target of £2,000 and will now transfer our focus to building savings to pay for moving costs. On that front, we've got £735 already: half of the remaining share money (have persuaded DH to put the rest in his S&S ISA, for retirement purposes ;) ), the boot sale money and a skim from the top of our bills account (which is always overestimated). So we're 10% of the way there already (target is £7,000) :)

    Am due to be paid by naughty American client tonight, which will settle the missing chunk from my buffer fund and provide some funds for holiday/savings too (hopefully). If they don't pay me, they'll be finding that the work isn't getting done...

    Work was very busy yesterday and there's still plenty more today. :) We had butternut squash curry and sag aloo last night, with the last of the hm naan. It was yummy and there's a double portion left for the freezer. All the ingredients were in the veg box, so no additional expenditure required. Am stealing one of Greying's Buddha bowl ideas tonight, so hopefully that will be tasty too.

    So financially and foodwise things are going well.... Pity about the housework, garden, volunteering jobs etc. etc.!

    MS things:
    * Work
    * SBs Swago thing
    * VB (inc survey) and MS rewards

    I **still** need to sort out our energy tariff.... :o

    Gratitudes:
    * A team effort cooking last night :)
    * My new desk - it's helping, although my legs are complaining about standing up all day!
    * The wondrous inspiration of the Internet for dinners :)

    Have a good day all!

    Thanks NG! That was the easy bit though - smaller target and more addictive than saving :)
