I only really know two people who are going well, the hen and my friend who is organising it so it's likely two of the people (hen would go with her sister who is driving) I wouldn't have met before and probably won't see again after the hen do as I'm not invited to the wedding (yet anyway).

Hang on a minute. You're offering to take complete strangers to a hen do for a bride who hasn't even invited you to the wedding???

Some one is taking the pi$$ out of you love.

I don't mind taking people if they give me petrol money as more passengers makes it cheaper. It was my friend who asked me to come on the hen do. I don't know the circumstances of the wedding. It might just be a small do.

Anyway I've paid for the weekend away now, £130 :(

    This is what I've asked:
£25 if 3 people come with me, £30 if 2 people and £50 if 1 person

According to that liftshare thing it will cost about £100 in petrol so if noone wanted to give me petrol money, I'd say to get the train as works out cheaper for me at £62.80 like someone already said on here.

I'd go for the fill-up the petrol at beginning and end option; whatever the direct-route mileage is, you're bound to do more than that. You'll be stopping and starting on the pick up/drop offs and you may do some driving in Blackpool. Someone mentioned parking, and that needs to be totted up. It's exhausting being the driver, as you have to concentrate whilst passengers can sleep off late nights/hangovers. Fuel has gone up again just recently. Fill up at the big Tesco on the way out of Blackpool before you get to M6. Stick to a steady speed for best fuel economy.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Only share the petrol money equally if you are sharing the driving equally. But even then you're coming off worse as there is wear and tear to the car, and insurance etc. to consider. Split the costs between passengers, and if anyone thinks you're pulling a fast one then suggest that you hire a car instead, and split the cost of that equally. They'll soon shut up.

Add: HMRC approved mileage rates for business expenses are 40p per mile. At that rate, they'd be paying just over £50 per head.

  • My friend who's organised it has said to everyone it will be £30 each plus she'll give each driver £10 which was left over after we'd all paid £130 for the weekend away. I found out I should have two passengers so I should get £70 hopefully.

Rugby to Blackpool is 160 miles from centre of each town (according to Google maps) so I've said about 200 miles for one way, so 400 miles in total. That leaves 80 miles for as yet unknown pick ups, drops offs and driving when there which I think is reasonable.

I think I'll fill up on my way home from work the night before as petrol is about 2-4p cheaper where I work compared to where I live! I'll keep the receipt to show them if they want to see how much it cost.

    Petrol money only
I usually feel that as I would be going anyway there is no need for my friends to contribute to wear and tear and only do fuel share on long trips like yours. I just fill the tank before we go and fill it again when we get home. We then split the bill between everyone in the car. It always works fine and sometimes they when they offer their share in £5 or £10 notes they say don`t worry about the change, you drove.
