Attends nursery comes home with a dirty backside

  • I used to be a nursery nurse and when training worked in an opportunity playgroup (SEN playgroup). I'm now a social worker working out of a pretty deprived council estate. None of the nurseries I've come across in either role sent children home with their stinking nappies. I find the idea absolutely bizarre! I have also never heard of that horrible blue paper aimed at mopping up spills being used for changing bottoms as it's far too rough. If it is a lot of young girls doing the changing they are most likely students doing their NVQs, one of the basic standards of this is changing a nappy properly, though perhaps the paper is not helping them. I would certainly take this further, starting with a meeting with he manager perhaps.

Imagine giving a pee/poo sample at the doctor's surgery, and being given it back after they've done the tests...

The more I think about this whole thing, the more utterly bizarre it seems. You're not being pedantic or paranoid OP! I would be 1/flabbergasted and 2/appalled, to be honest.

I am really worrying now what i will say - i thought that it was the norm that everyone took their childs waste home and I cannot believe that no one else is expected to. I am going to ask his keyworker next week what the provision is and why we have to take it home - i did make a joke last week to say gosh that nappy you gave me last week stank the whole car out - she didnt bat an eyelid

    .

Standard policy for antenatal checks here. And when you take your baby to the clinic to be weighed you have to take the dirty nappy away with you too. _pale_
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

PL, have you spoken to J at 'S'? As you know, I am aware of where your LO is. What would happen at the mainstream pre-school? I assume they would use the wipes. Depending upon how you get on with his key-worker, it may be worth speaking to her as I am sure that they must have good communication with 'S' and this could be discussed???
Are you keeping LO at that main stream nursery for next year or is he coming to the one on the top of the hill?
When I was at my nursery, we wouldn't hesitate to use wet wipes. Blue towels are horrible.
Don't know what to say about returning nappies - we would bin them but only had one per session. If they have a lot, then they should have a special bin - Ofsted are quite hot on this. Maybe this is why they return them.

OP, I'm feeling really upset at the thought of your little boy having his bottom wiped with that blue roll, it must really hurt, it's no wonder he's still dirty that roll probably just smears it about him. I also can't bear the thought of them doing this to little girls who inevitably get poo in their little flowers from time to time, it must be excrutiating for them.

Your little boy has obviously had a rough start in life, I can't understand why anyone in a supposedly caring profession would put a vulnerable child through such an ordeal.

I hope you get it sorted, good luck.

...and also they like you to see what your child has done.

    Buerk. _pale_

OP - I am sure people here will help you word a letter if you wish or put together a list of the key points that you need to raise with the manager/whoever. I hope you get this resolved.
