sorry Doc, where are you seeing the 3week rule about Apprenticeships.

We administer apprenticeships, we used to deal with companies who had people working with them, that they wanted to put through an apprenticeship, now we can offer young people a placement in work with an apprenticeship.

I haven't heard anything about the 3 week rule?

If MT's son was on an Apprenticeship, the company was being full funded by the Govt for him taking the apprenticeship. They only needed to pay him the minimum wage.

And MT, he should have signed a contract for the apprenticeship. All our learners do agreeing to take it on and commit for the specified time, although we do get withdrawals.

I am not sure that this was an apprenticeship per se. wondering if the local company was offered the £1500 incentive to take on an apprentice, and have now had the money and decided time to go?

but am sure there is a rule that the apprentice has to finish.

    hi DW
    thanks for the info
    that may well explain it.

we've been looking to see if there are any other apprenticeships about that he could do but nothing so far.
so looks like it may have to be the college route.

sad thing is he was really enjoying it and chaps he was working with were all great.

MT, there is a reason why they have to let him go.

    1) The company that accepted him as apprenticeships get grant from the government.

    2) The grant are limited to 3 weeks by the look of it.

    3) Employing apprenticeship does not cost the company anything.

    4) There is no set contract for apprenticeships. That is why companies take them on that understanding.

    http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/Employers/The-Basics.aspx

The company I work for used to employ apprenticeship but because of the nature of our work - our clients will not let anybody under 24yrs old to work in their high risk area as well as there is liabilities & public insurance to consider too.

I wish your DS good luck in whatever he wanna do - but I would think the best for him to do is continue his study/college & get a degree/diploma.

The only suggesting I can suggest is :-

    1) Get the employer to write letter of recommendation if not ask the employer if its alright to put his company down as a reference for future job elsewhere.

    2) Ring around local area ask if there is any work available & tell them that he has 3 wks experienced.

    3) Sign back on with, I don't know what they are call now : Connecxion?? etc. tell them to put him back on apprenticeship.

    4) sadly you are not local to me if not I could have recommended him to a company that I know will take apprenticeships.

I do read your posts Quoia and think I've realised you are brilliant and better than most at getting your weekly shop for nothing/or next to nothing via wombling, but wombling is just not for me, I see you post totals along with Blue and the others and think it is amazing, well done and more power to your elbow.....but it must be a little time consuming too....I used to not mind spending time in supermarkets ( I was a Mystery Shopper) but now like to do really quick shops...in and out, with no hassle at the tills....then I can use some of my spare time to enter comps and enjoy the rewards they give me, I really believe it's swings and roundabouts....I've always been very lucky.
Wins totalling arounnd £75,000 and so far this year over £4,000, a £900 holiday and a £500 telly last year with quite a lot of other stuff as well.( cereal and toiletry wins have been very good).....my points have given me a £1450 holiday, £800 off another, 2 x Ferry trip to Ireland worth £500....£500 worth of spectacles, also lots of perfume on double up, and a few small electrical appliances, had quite a lot of stuff from Denby and will be getting £600 of my next holiday later this year....I'm more than happy.

sorry I don't agree with Doc!

the employers don't get paid the £1500 grant until week 8.

otherwise loads of employers would do it.

yep, I am right, there is a minimum contract of 12 months.

Apprenticeships are the latest govt idea for reducing the young unemployed.

If they are still going next year, your DD will need to decide early on what she wants to do. If she decides to get a job, I would advise her to sign up with a decent training provider, who will get her into a decent apprenticeship. Also she really needs to achieve A-C grades in Literacy and Numeracy, ie Maths and English, otherwise she will have to do functional skills too on her apprenticeship.

evening all, sorry to hear abt the epprentiship MT keep spirits up and maybe try to talk to the boss, there may have been crossed wires maybe, hope you get something sorted.

maybe worth a looky on the elite thread they have figured out a way to get free beer at mr S using the bavaria mocs in the sains mag and bm vouchers.

    7 packs of 4 x bavaroia
    use 7 £1.50 mocs
£10.50 to pay then you get a £10 bm back coz tesco is cheaper. then recycle the £10 over and you get the idea. works on the shandy too but beer slightly more profitable. enjoy CM
