Miffy (((HUG))) I'm so very sorry to hear about Daisy Cat.
Esmf Bummer! I wish I had something helpful to tell you - but we eat veggie here, so my meal ideas wouldn't probably work for you. I've heard of this sort of thing - when Mr LW took a temporary post, some years back, to avoid being on the dole, it was for 10 months only, purely so that he wouldn't have any "rights".
Charbird you're very welcome here; sorry to hear about your Dad. Have a Wolfy (((HUG))) to be going on with.
Hilstep I know where you're coming from; I haven't been able to walk with any footwear on for an age now; I can bimble about the bungalow on my sticks OK, because I've nowt on my feet, but outdoors I need the wheelchair or the scooter. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Morning everyone
esmf - Sorry to hear your news re DH's job - like others have said, check out if you/he can claim anything.
miffy - sorry to hear that you lost daisycat.
Hugs/kisses to anyone else who's in need, too.
Rather grey here, got to get WM on, been so behind with all my jobs, OS or not, and have a relatively quiet afternoon, so going to wash, finish some stitching and put away some ironing. Generally not doing well OS-wise, due to ongoing family issues, but trying when I can! Others in far worse situations, so got to stop feeling sorry for myself!
Have a nice afternoon all, see you later.

Hi. Lovely day here on the IOW, sunny and not too cold. Did a load of washing and hung it outside - just love the thought of getting into bed and snuggling down in sheets smelling of fresh air.
Have been knitting like fury and just finished 30 little chicks with creme eggs in their tummy. I aim to do 100 before Easter and hope to sell them to raise funds for the drop-in. If someone could explain to me in words of one syllable, and no techie stuff, how to get a photo onto this thread I will try to show you the chicks, they are quite cute.
On the same-ish subject, can anyone explain to me why, for the last week or so, I have had to re-register to post a reply. It happens every day.
Miffy: I am so sorry. I feel choked just typing this. You have lost a member of your family and must give yourself time to grieve properly.
Charbird: Help yourself to as many hugs as you need. I really do know how you feel as we lost our Dad last year. It's unexpected little things that get to you. Lots of love.
esmf: Poor old you. If ever anyone owes you a favour, now is the time to call it in. Loads of good advice from the folk here but if things get really bad just let friends and people around you know what is going on. People are only too anxious to help if you'll let them.
Right, my kitchen looked as if someone had picked it up and shaken it last time I looked so I'm off to have a bit of a clear up.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Monnogran you need to upload your pictures to a site like Photobucket or Flickr (or indeed Facebook if you have an account) and then basically use the little icon which looks like a post card which allows you to paste in the details of your image IYSWIM.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Hugs to esmf, miffy, hilstep and charbird and anyone else in need of hugs.
Last session of the conference. It's for UG programme and mine is PG so not really relevant, hence catching up on emails etc :-) conference has been a really good two days - lots to think about, lots of newtworking, but now want to be home. Have kept back the biccies from the morning break and banana from lunch :T but forgot to refill thermos. Hmmmm, wonder if i can get :coffee: on expenses and claim another nsd
Had a little brainwave now i'm getting the hang of NSDs. Was worrying about having 5 SM days (saturdays) in march, but actually just need to shop every 8 days :-)20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5000 -
Exam results day here, I'm gutted for my poor daughter she's worked so hard but hasn't done as well as she expected, she's so upset and now worrying that she won't make it into uni.

She's resat 2 maths exams but has got the exact same grades as last time (she got A in GCSE so she's gutted with D & U at AS level) and everyone in her Economics class has failed the exam. Something isn't right there, I've never known a whole class fail an exam, not one of them passed. The school is going to pay for remarks and resits but that's not the point, either there's been a problem with the exam papers or the teacher has failed them all massively. It now means she's going to have more resits along with her final exams in June and an agonising wait until results in August to see if she's met the grades for university.
There's so much pressure on kids now, no jobs, apprenticeships are highly sought after and they only last about a year so it's not like they're qualified at the end of it like they were in my day. My brother did an old-fashioned 4 year apprenticeship years ago and was a fully qualified mechanic at the end of it, now apprenticeships are only like a years work experience, you're not qualified when you finish.
Sorry for the depressing post but I just needed to vent on here so I'm in a better frame of mind for DD arriving home, I think there'll be lots of tears and hugs. I really worry for the younger generation, it's so hard for them and I can't see it getting any easier.

Hi Peeps,
Just a quick one to sympathise with those who are suffering setbacks physically, financially or emotionly,
ESMF, this happened to DP a fortnight ago, fortunately it was my birthday last week & his today & both sets of parents gave us cash to help us through, unfortunately, the depot he was working at is closing down soon so he won't be able to go back there but hopefully there will be something better round the corner. At the moment he has a broken rib as well so at least it gives him a chance to heal x
Hilstep, my walking is practically non existant these days, not because of my feet but because the arthritis in both my knees & spine has caused my scoliosis to take a turn (pun intended:)) for the worse & it is just too painful to be upright for more than 15 mins or so. Hence why it took me 4hrs to visit 6 shops in one street last Saturday!!! I would so love a scooter. Still as my doctor said, like the fibro it may be life changing but it's not life threatening & there are plenty more worse off.
Miffy, sorry for your loss and your thoughts of Daisy walking the summerlands with your mum did give me a tearful smile x
Charlady, this is not something I have had to deal with yet so can only imagine the sense of deprivation losing a parent could bring so hugs for you too x
Hugs to anyone I have missed or those of you who would just like one

ETA,my thanks button has disappeared so consider youselves thanked all of yous xSometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
