Just where do you think the money came from to enable you to obtain your mortgage?

    No savers - no mortgages.

No mortgages - no interest for savers. It's no coincidence that when savers were getting extremely good rates (I remember a Halifax ISA at 10%, plus all the Iceland savings accounts) it was during a time when bank lending was at its height.

It's interesting to see on here that the same people who are calling for prohibitive lending restrictions to control house price inflation are the same ones who are moaning about savers being 'ripped off'.

Yet another case of "beware of what you wish for"...

not true, around 35% of europes mortgage funding is not derived from deposits, and the rest is funded from both current accounts and savings

even so, its up to people what they do with their money, there is no 'entitlement' to a certain rate from savings

my point in the post that youve quoted in a rather out of context manner was that there is whinging going on from all sides - not just svr mortgage-holders
