I forgot how ridiculous some of these jobs are. Paying not much more than NMW, job is to do some filing, typing, etc. And must be "educated to degree level"...

    I mean, seriously?!

    I've found this myself.

They obviously want someone who's literate in IT and English for data entry work. If you have a degree it shows you're capable of being trained. I think they'll be wanting someone who can be promoted.

I doubt it, they just want more than their money's worth. I applied anyway, I figured my 6 years of experience would override their need for a degree.

The problem is if employers start asking for degrees for basic jobs what do us folk do who haven't got them?

I've had a call from the agency who got me into my last job, she's putting me forward for some jobs, not the best pay but better than nothing! One of them strangely enough is where my old manager went to work (then the new one came in and fired me!)

Fingers crossed something comes of them.

Sorry to hear you're out of work again Drea. It's sad to see the same names posting on this topic.

I'm still looking for a full-time job. I finished a temp position last September, and started working for Lionbridge in December. It's far from perfect, but it's earning me a bit of money and means I don't have to sign on.

I'm volunteering too. Started in October, but at the moment I seem to be constantly chasing them up, and I haven't been in for about 5 weeks. I'm not too bothered as it's still on my CV, and I have been able to do loads of courses through it.

I'm hardly applying for any jobs at the moment, because there are so few vacancies to apply for. Haven't had an interview since last November. I spent hours on an application a couple of weeks ago and got an email yesterday to say the job had been pulled :( Think that just sums the job market up at the minute!

The markets is dire at the moment, as you say hardly anything to apply for, The advisor at the job centre told me its always the same this time of year, usually around Easter things pick up.

Any chance of contacting your old manager and asking him/her to put a good word in? I seem to recall you thought they were going to put you up for supervisor so they must have thought well of you.

Applied for a job which was an offshoot search, again from an agency that told me about one job and I applied to something different and got feedback with my rejection, which is the first time that's happened in four years (the feedback that is, though the rejection is also quite rare too).

So it's good that there are some rare agencies that don't like to waste your time when it's a no, and it was more about the CV than my cover letters which can sometimes get too long. Having said that, the job was only up for two days, maybe I'd have just heard nothing if the app was nearer to the closing date.

Joined another agency temp wise just to double the chances of stopgap stuff. We'll see whether things get busier in the spring, or stay quiet because of the Olympics and doubts that people can get around on public transport.
