Hi southwester ... thanks for your post :)

Things are great with OH after telling him. He has not shown any anger whatsoever, and is now over the disappointment that I didn't feel able to tell him sooner. I am receiving total understanding and support, and feel so very lucky that my husband is so amazing!

On the DFW front, hubby is encouraging me to sell stuff and find other ways to make a little extra money here and there. But he also acknowledges that I need to have time to myself for the sake of my still delicate (though much improved on this time last year) mental health, so he isn't expecting me to work ridiculous hours. He has seen my snowball and is happy with the targets I have set myself and he is really good at motivating me.

Mr OneDay has also offered me a loan to pay off some of my credit card (he doesn't have enough savings to pay it all), but I have refused this - the interest he is making on his savings is great than the interest I pay on my credit card. I have told him I may accept a loan down the line - if the money is still available - when my credit card is paid off in order to settle my Virgin Money loan early.

I don't really have any updates at the moment. The bank balance is still +ve (yay - still love seeing this!)

I am still waiting for a repsonse from MBNA re: the PPI on my Virgin Money loan (the agreement is with MBNA through Virgin and I wasn't getting anywhere with Virgin so ...)

I feel so positive and a bit of an idiot for letting it build up and not telling him sooner. But as he says "You've told me now". I read on here regularly about folk whos partners aren't supporting them, or worse actively seem to be putting barriers in the way to prevent a path to a DF life, and I just wish that everyone was fortunate enough to have a Wonderful Mr OneDay!!

  • Thats good news, its been a month since I told the OH, God you women can be frightening - lol

She is not so angry now but has said a couple of times, that I got us into this mess, which I already know but on the whole things are a lot better and I cant wait to get all this out the way and get back to normal.

Still feel the guilt of it all and wife still distant but suppose that will change

  • Hi Tigz, doing good thanks. Just haven't had a lot to update here ... things for me are plodding along very nicely ... earning extra cash in any way I can (currently doing lots of typing for a student I know who is working on their thesis, and selling stuff on eBay).

I am still surprised to see my bank account stil in the black, and that I managing to keep it there even though

    - I have made my payments to credit card (over what I had budgeted)
    - put money into my "savings" account to stop me spending it (for gifts, planned Tai Chi events etc)
-and also had to find some extra money for a collegues leaving do at the end of the month (she handed her notice in after I'd done my budget for the month :D)

My egg card was finally closed today and the +ve balance I had on that - due to my balance transfer and DD from bank account going through at the same time, was put back to my bank account which is nice :)

It seems like all I talk about at the moment is money. Which is a little boring for dear Mr OneDay. But as I said .... at least I'm talking about it and not burying my head anymore!

I'm looking forward to doing my tally up on the 23rd (after loan payment is made) to see where I truly stand.

So, how are you? Looking forward to starting work next week?

Glad to hear you're ok and you're in the black! What a lovely feeling hey?

Yes I can't wait to start work on Monday, it will be a while before I can budget properly, until I know what I have coming in, but I'm not planning to be spending much of what I have coming in other than petrol & nursery fees! I've been to town this morning and bought 2 blouses, 3 Tops and 1 pair of shoes for work, BF already bought me 2 pairs of trousers. And the best bit is the job centre will reimburse me £100 for work clothing!! I've not gone over this amount incl the trousers, so pleased with that. DFW has changed the way I shop!

So glad you told Mr OneDay, makes all the difference to your sanity! lol

    Take care, speak soon x

  • Finally I have some news to update this diary with.

I received a letter from MBNA today saying they had looked into my loan account, cancelled my PPI from 18 March 2007 and credited my loan account with a rebate of £358.62, therefore lowering my payments to £209.40 per month.

I have 25 payments left to go, so that brings my total repayment left down to £5235.

I was hoping for a bit more of a rebate, on the grounds that the PPI was added up front to the loan and totalled £1405, and I am only 2 years through a 4 year loan. However, I understand that the PPI is weighted at the beginning (as it would be if it were like a credit card where they do it by percentage of the outstanding balance) and after consideration I am happy with this and will not pursue it further. And it is an improvement on the result I got on the phone. LOL. Well, anything would be really!

I'll post the letter I wrote on this thread at some point. I have visitors this weekend and the letter is on the other PC so I don't want to spend too long on this. I just wanted to share my good news.

Anyway, I was paying £223.64 per month, so I am going to pay the "spare" £15 or so to my credit card each month to pay it off sooner.

Oh, and slowlyfading - my ebay name is cassidy_scoot. I don't have anything on there at the moment so there'll be no temptation for you! I'm in the midst of sorting out the next bunch of items to list at the start of next month.

Thanks everyone for all your support and help. It really means a lot. I am so happy with my progress so far - it exceeds all my expectations - and reading here every day really helps to keep me motivated.
