OneDayIWill ... Update this thread again!

So it's been a fair old time since I was here. What have I been doing? Why, paying my debts of course.

I no longer have any debt on my credit card.
I still have a positive bank balance.
I still have about £3000 to pay on my loan, but can't pay it off early. I have about £500 saved towards it.

    So, things are looking good.

I just want to say to those still struggling:

    Just Keep Focused

Mr OneDay continues to be his loving, supportive self. We are busy decorating the dining room at the moment ... needed some TLC as was looking very tired and old. The plan for a move to Costa Rica is still on :)

    Oh and I forgot...

I still leave my debit card at home. I'm cash only these days. Most days I don't even take cash with me. No cash, no spend. It's great!

  • One day I will ... slide back into this thread and update it without anyone realising I haven't done for more than a year :)

I am debt free now - woo-hoo!!!!! As of 18th May 2009. And it feels great.

I could have been debt free earlier, but once all the credit card and overdraft debt were paid off, Mr OneDay & I decided that I would just continue paying the monthly loan payment instead of saving to pay it off early so my savings could be used towards a 3 month stay in Costa Rica from December 2008 to February 2009. Needless to say we had a bloomin' great time and although it meant my debt free date slipped, it was so totally worth it. Living is important!

Upshot of the stay though was that Mr OneDay decided he is very content with his life here and does not want to move to CR at this time. Which is a bummer for me, because I really want to move to CR now!!!

Still, marriage is all about compromise and he has supported me so well through my depression and debt that I need to give him something now :):) I love my Mr OneDay and want him to be happy, and if that means staying where we are now and putting CR plans on hold, then so be it.

We are in the process of selling our house. Mr OneDay & I have decided that if we are staying here then a change of lifestyle will help my health continue to improve - it improved so much during our 3 months in CR. So that means a change of location, within the same city, so that we can walk to work and to the shops and for socialising, less reliance on car/public transport, more time for me to practice Tai Chi etc etc. Selling our house is not turning out to be too difficult - lots of interest ... finding the right place at the right price... that's a bit more challenging!!!

Anyway, being debt free gives us the chance to do this without stressing too much about money. And I'm so thankful for all the help and advice I received here.

Wow great to see you updated - Costa Rica! WOW! Bet that was a wonderful 3 months and congrats on your debt-freeness too  Quality of life is certainly a major factor - it was only on TV this morning about the work/life balance and it sounds like you're doing something about it! Good on you!
