OK - is there a smiley for doing a backflip? Because that's what I feel like doing right now.

Tomorrow is pay day, so today is the day I check my bank balance and see if I can afford to make any extra payments to my card before I get paid tomorrow. And guess what - I was able to make a £266.55 payment!

Woo-hoo!! So that, together my S/O to the CC for £272.50 which goes out on the 1st (day after pay day) means that I should already have achieved my target for June!!!!!

It is really weird - I don't really understand where this money to pay my debts is coming from. I mean, I know I am doing odd jobs here and there for folk, and selling stuff on eBay, but I *always* did that and never had enough money to lower my debts ...

I feel very odd. I keep thinking things are going to come crashing down and its all going to go wrong...

OK Guys, I need your help ....

I was supposed to be going away for an event next week but due to having to work, I can't go. I have £200 put aside for this event.

Since I cannot go, I decided that I would pay £100 of the money to my credit card, spend £50 on myself and leave the other £50 where it is.

The problem is that I am struggling to spend the £50 on myself!! I NEVER thought I'd say that.

I know exactly what I want to buy - two books that I have wanted for a very long time and a USB memory key which I need. It's all in my basket in Amazon and it comes to a total of £43. But I am stuggling to actually hit the "Place Your Order" button - I am gutted not to be gonig to the event and I want to treat myself, but I cannot seem to do it because I feel guilty spending this money! Ack.

Mr OneDay says I deserve it, and points out that I haven't bought any treats for 3 months. But still I feel guilty.

Help!!!!!! What should I do? Buy myself this treat or not.
    What would you do??

Hi oneday. Ive just had a quick scan through your diary and you are doing so well. You had already budgeted to spend £200 on yourself and to get what you need will be less than £50 so you are saving money, You've got to allow yourself small treats to make all the hard work worthwhile.
However i totally understand what you mean about the guilt

I know where you are coming from! I havent bought myself a treat in ages and the last one was a jam donught and then I felt so guilty because it was 50p, if I had checked first to see how much I wouldnt have bought it.

If I were you I would see if I could get the things cheaper on Ebay and if those were the cheapest and I still felt guilty then I think I would maybe spend less and just get one book and the stick or just two books.

I wouldnt get the items if you think the guilt would ruin the pleasure of having the items. Only spend the money if you will 100% enjoy the treat.

    I hope that helps!

Oh I don't know!! Thanks guys.

I'm very good at doing guilt, and letting it spoil things for me. I wish I wasn't!

The books are somewhat specialised - Amazon is definitely the cheapest place to get them (not available on eBay), although they are still expensive. The books are also ones I would take to Costa Rica with us if we are able to move next summer - they aren't something that I would happily leave behind (which would be a real waste of money).

Oh, what to do, what to do...

    Hi OneDay,

I'd buy them.... :rotfl: but that's just the kind of person I am. You had £200 set aside for the event, you can't go which is a shame. So, if you buy your books, you'll be better off and making yourself happy at the same time. Your CC will be £100 less which it wouldn't have been if you'd gone on the event.

So go for it.... we all deserve a little treat now and then. xx

I know the feeling - sometimes it gets so difficult just to spend money on yourself, doesn't it?!! I'd say buy them and enjoy them - you deserve it, you've been working so hard on your debts and you are still going to be spending less money than you would have done if you had gone to the event - and it's budgeted for already so go for it xx

Are you emigrating to Costa Rica? I'm always interested in hearing other people's stories about emigrating because we want to do that - we want to emigrate to France in 4 years time :D

Ohhhhhhhhh. I did it! I feel soooooooo guilty..... but I can't wait for my books to arrive. How exciting!! A parcel delivery. Haven't had one of them for ages... :rotfl:

Thanks for your input guys. I hope I don't live to regret spending that money. Ack.

mattfiona - which one am I speaking to? matt or fiona?? Does it matter? Are you a split personality?? Yes, Mr OneDay and I are planning a flit to Costa Rica.

We went to visit my friends there in January - she is Costa Rican, he is British, and when we came back it was all we could talk about. It is still all we can talk about - the country, the culture, the language. Everything. My friends are not just friends to me, I count them as my family, and they feel the same way about me & Mr OneDay. We have been restless in our current lives for a while and want experience something completely different. And living in Costa Rica is completely different. I never thought Mr OneDay would be this adventurous, but he surprised me because I although I was joking about it, he was the one that started talking about it seriously. Yes, we have only been there once. I am going back in December and we will make another trip together in the spring ... and if we still want to do it after those visits, then the plan is to flit in Summer 2008. This was my trigger for realising that I needed to do something about my debts, and it remains my inspiration to get them paid. I have no intentioning of going until they are paid .. I don't want to start my new life with the burden of debt.

Needless to say our friends are also very excited. They've already been planning the big family celebration for our arrival! I keep telling them to slow down, it might not happen ... but they think it is destiny, and I'm inclined to agree with them.

Phew. What a lot of ramble. I should stop there and get back to work. Oh, and don't tell my/our boss that we plan to move to CR - he has no idea! (we both work in the same place). We both enjoy our jobs, but need a change. Oh and our "real" families don't know about it either ... plan to tell them at Christmas if it is still a goer then ... so don't go spreading the gossip!

So ... France ... tell me all!

Oneday well done on treating yourself. I got paid more than I thought this month and although it'll still be tight (as it's only two weeks money that has to last 4  ) I took £20 out of the hole in the wall to 'treat' myself. Could I spend it? Could I heck! It's still in my purse! I'm sure I'll find something this weekend with my OH to spend it on, but I actually quite liked the feeling!

    Well done!

    C xx
