Not that easy to find a phone number for them...

Chomeur no disrespect, but you do need to be a bit more proactive if you want to try and get this resolved.

It took about a minute to google that phone number, if it's not the right one they can hopefully give you the correct one.

It's been engaged every time I've tried so far. I found another number online 020 7391 3606, but it's never answered.

    Have to go out now.

Well go via your local delivery office and speak to them in person. Also as it has only been less than 10 minutes since the number was posted I don't think that counts as 'always engaged'

The only other alternative here is to just write it off.

As soolin suggests, go via the delivery office, for £90 it's worth going out of your way.
Either that or if you're at home during the day try & catch your postie & ask them if they can remember where it was delivered.
Do you have a shared letter box or somewhere it could have been left, with a neighbour maybe.
The longer you leave it the harder it will be to track it down.

OK, after quite a bit of investigation it seems that what happened was that the phone was delivered to a neighbour of mine who just left it in the communal hallway. Bright spark. And someone has just walked off with it. I'm hoping the Post Office will reimburse me, after all their obligation is to deliver it to me, not to my neighbour.
  • To be honest it's the neighbour who should suffer the burden as they left the parcel unattended. There was talk of RM being allowed to leave parcels with a neighbour, I don't know if this scheme is live or not. If the parcel has been stolen you should try the police, they might not do much but it's worth a shot.

Your neighbour sounds like a bright spark, or a liar.
Why would anyone accept a parcel on behalf of someone else that needs signing for & then leave it in a communal hallway?
If the neighbour couldn't keep it safe for you they should have refused to accept it.

My neighbours do it often & I'm grateful.
They just leave it by our door.
    Saves trying to rearrange collection!

Who would be responsible for it though if it goes missing, as in this case?
I have neighbours who I take in items for & they have done the same for me but we've kept it in our houses until the recipient collects it.
