I'm far from convinced that Korean BB creams work miracles, but for the price advertised I'd like to give one a try. Colour match is critical; where in London stocks them so I can have a play?

I'm using the Garnier one at the moment and I love it but everyone seems to say the Korean ones are better so I'm tempted to try them. One thing that worries me though, how do we know what's in them? Can we be sure all the ingredients are safe to use? Are they tested to the same standard as cosmetics here? I'm not saying they're not safe, I'd just be interested to know.

I'm a beauty blogger who's tried the Boots and Garnier BB creams so far (both sent to me for free). The Boots one was dreadful. The Garnier one is nicer but tbh I think the BB cream thing in Europe so far is just a massive con! Nothing more than tinted moisturisers under another name. The reason why people are ordering in BB creams from Asia still is because they are actually the genuine article while the European BB creams are not. What the European market does not seem to have understood is that BB creams and tinted moisturisers fulfil different functions; it is not enough to just repackage a tinted moisturiser and call it a BB cream as they are categorically not the same thing. I have asked my uncle and aunt to get me some proper stuff (following my orders off the internet) as they live in China.

There are plenty of articles on the web regarding the differences between BB cream and tinted moisturiser; just google for them.

edit: appears bunberry got in before me :p good post bunberry :p

green, this is a foundation as well as a moisturiser/SPF? Looks a bargain if it is.

Yup, definitely a foundation - here's a review so you can see how pale it is and how it looks on skin. http://www.phyrra.net/2011/07/holika-holika-essential-petit-bb-cream-spf-30-pa-review.html

Looks tempting!I was looking at others earlier due to this thread but, having pale skin that can be a pain to get anything for, wasn't sure!

  • I have tried Smashbox Camera ready 5 in 1 bb. I have to say I love it. It has a light to medium texture & gives a beautiful flawless finish without the heaviness of a foundation.

The main issue I have is it's very expensive for the size of the tube.

I'm going to consider one of the asian ones mentioned in this thread as I like bb creams even on a night out. Have never used a foundation, but bb creams are quick and easy & you only need one product.

I was thinking of one of these for days in, rather than just moisturiser so I dont scare visitors;)

I like the sound of this one" Skinfood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF 20 PA+ - matte finish, but too heavy coverage for my liking, and not enough sun protection for me. Don't worry it doesn't smell like mushrooms" from the post above but can only find it on ebay, so I'm not sure, it comes in natural skin or bright skin, again I dont know what this means, can anyone with knowledge put some reputable links up to suppliers even if its ebay and maybe give us some insight into colours, I tried the garnier one, it was orange and watery so no good for me.

Most Korean BB creams only come in 2 shades. Mushroom comes in #1 & #2 and the latter is darker - generally lower the number the lighter the BB cream is.

I have #1 and for reference the foundation shades I've used before are MAC NC15, Diorskin Ivory, Aveda Tinted Moisturizer Aspen, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Nude, so if you use one of these shades or something similar, chances are #1 could be a good match.

I prefer tinted moisturizer to foundation and I like my foundation to be sheer, or at most sheer to medium; I do not like heavy coverage makeup. It's something to bear in mind because what I think is too heavy for me may not give the coverage you're after. Though you can layer BB creams to give more coverage, or dab on specific areas like you would with a concealer, so they're very versatile :)

If you're interested in the Mushroom one, check out the first review here on makeupalley which has links to swatches of #1 and #2

Thanks v much for all your replies, I've had a long day at work and this is the first chance to get on here. Bunberry you are a wiz on bb creams :)

It would seem that western creams are a poor substitute so I think I will try eastern. I suppose it's just a case of guessing the colour to some extent?

I'm 50 and until recently have been able to wear tinted moisturiser during the day with touches of concealer in places but it's not enough I need a foundation now and I like a light one. I currently use clinique superbalanced, it's as much as I can tolerate.

So I thought BB looked like a good idea. I'm still prone to a t-zone shine so might need a matt one with a bit of bronzer. I don't think I'm even going to try the new one's over here.

    Thanks for all your advice:A

  • Looking on ebay at the bb creams & there are quite a lot. However, none have a colour chart, so am unsure what shade to buy. If I were to buy a bb cream in the UK, I would go for light or fair.
