    hi!

i've been lurking for a while, but thought i would finally say hi to my fellow 2014 brides-to-be :j

our date is september 5th 2014 whic seems like forever away right now! bonkers007, you are super organised with the invites!!

we have booked our venue, registrar and photographer and have picked our theme, potential bridesmaid dresses, invitations etc and have a few other bits and pieces in the pipeline! am totally addicted to pinterest right now for wedding inspiration!

am hoping to sort a few of the bigger things (disco / band / entertainment / cars) over the summer as hubbie-to-be is a part time uni student so will be more receptive to wedding planning once his exams are done!

i was considering making my own cake like some other brides on this thread, but am worried that by that point I will completely stressed out and this will be one further thing to add to my stresses!! i have however discovered that M&S do some beautiful and comparatively cheap wedding cakes - has anyone else looked in to these at all, or perhaps been a guest at a wedding that had an m&s wedding cake? i'm wondering what they are like....

phew, sorry for the long post, but hello! and good luck with planning everyone!

Hopping over from the 2015 thread, as it seems more likely that we will marry in 2014 at the minute! We're having a difficult time making plans as we don't know exactly where we're going to be based and, until that's sorted, there's not much I can do. Please cheer me up, as I really want to get married to MrL soon!

We were planning to move to Cardiff, as I've been offered a job there (yay! :D:D) and MrL was going to go back to university. That was all well and good until last week when MrL was offered a job in Bristol! He had a few queries about the job, which were finally sorted yesterday, and we were feeling very happy about moving to Bristol... I found some lovely places we could get married at within our budget and MrL liked the look of them too! (When MrL was going back to being a student, we thought we ought to wait until 2015 to save up enough but since we'll both be working, we think we can manage 2014 without any trouble now.)

So, things were looking done and dusted yesterday... until MrL told me after he got home from work that he had received an e-mail from another company he interviewed at last year (he very narrowly missed out on the job the first time around) telling him they are about to advertise a new vacancy and asking if he is still interested! Aaaah! The new job is in Cardiff, which would be more convenient for me, and is a bit better paid than the one in Bristol, which would be great for MrL... so now we are in limbo until we hear back from them!

To cap it all off, we were going to go engagement ring shopping over the bank holiday weekend in the Jewellery Quarter but MrL has been told he has to work so I think that's off the cards too.

I just want to book our wedding and get married already!

    Hello everyone :)
Love reading this thread and hearing everyone's plans! Don't feel like I'm the only one with a faraway wedding!
August 2014 seems ages away! Hope everyone is enjoying planning, we've almost finished so I'm struggling to look for things to do to drag the planning excitement out a bit longer :)

DubPrincess, I know what you mean. We booked our reception venue at the end of August/early September and it isn't until July next year. It did seem ages away, especially since I kept having to say it's July 2014, but given that we've already been engaged for 9 months, I'm pretty sure they next 14 months are going to fly by .

Mini update: we met with the florist last week, awaiting a rough idea on costs.
A couple of my bridesmaids have already created a Facebook group for my hen do - more excited about this than the wedding at the moment as that's much nearer than the wedding :rotfl:
Debt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.

Busy saving for my wedding July 2014 :o.

So I've only gone and found not one but two venues that are within budget and really interesting in Bristol. Haven't found any nearly as nice - or as cheap! - in Cardiff. Is this a sign? I don't know... Really hoping that we know where we'll be living soon so we can go ahead and book! There's the small matter of announcing our engagement first though, I suppose! Looking forward to doing that too! :D

Have you all set a budget to work to? Have you had to change it much since you starting planning? Initially we thought we would be able to do everything we wanted for around £5,000 but that was before we realised how much everything costs! Currently we are aiming for the ceremony and reception catering/drinks to come in under £5,000 for 75 guests. Hopefully we won't have to spend much on top of that then... I feel that, once we've sorted out actually getting married and feeding our guests, everything else is just extra... So we can shell out on a photographer if we want to; I can buy a fancy dress if I want to; we can have a live band but none of that stuff is really essential so if we start to worry about the cost, there are obvious things to leave or cut back on.
  • We just booked our reception venue today for 7th Jun 2014. Really excited! I like having a long time to plan/look forward to things.

We are only having 50ish guests and hoping to do everything for about £5k - no bridesmaids/groomsmen, no cars, no honeymoon, our venue is so lovely we won't need to buy decs or place settings, they are supplying wild flowers for the tables, high street dress/suit. Main costs are the food & drink at about £3k (some of which my dad is paying for), the reg office at £500, DJ £300 and a FABULOUS photographer at an eyewatering £1,700.

Just a quick update on how we're getting on! MrL was offered the job in Cardiff! Delighted! :D

Now to find somewhere to get married there...

Sounds like your venue is lovely, kaypea74!
