Glad to amuse but I'm a strapping (almost) six footer and although my pushbike does have a basket on it, I'm a long way from Miss Marple..............:rotfl:sometimes I do feel a bit like an explorer from a faraway land come to observe the strange rituals of the natives. It was HORRIBLE.
Had to chain the pushbike to the shopping-trolley corral. A$DA isn't really the store for the "small basket" singleton shopper, is it? Plus it's out in the 'burbs and a steep pull up a hill to get there.
Very interesting about comparison-shopping Tesco vs Co-Op. I think that we're often stuck with the opinion of stores formed before the dramatic price shifts of the last few months/ couple of years and that some of the stuff we think we know may be outdated.
I "keep my numbers" in thrifty palance and run my grocery spend weeks to end on a Saturday and as the last Saturday of April has passed I can now divulge the total grocery spend was.......waitforit.......£16.26.
Give the gal a prize. Of course, I did spend £16.84 on chocolate which I counted separately.Ahem. Telling you like it really is............:o:p:D

Darn it! I have to go spend today!
It's our wedding anniversary tomorrow (36 yrs:eek: ) Must get him a card! Our little holiday is our pressie to each other. Although it is self catering I have been promised a yummy meal out tomorrow night, the first away. I am really looking forward to that! No dishes (heaven!) I actually quite like cooking in a boats galley kitchen though!
I am guessing with all the real ale pubs along the way (boating holiday) that fiscal fasting will have to await our return. We will however be doing the staying away from the big 4 supermarket challenge. As far as I know there are none near the rivers, just a biggish local independant one.
Just checking the stores for our return and am thinking we will have to have more than a few vegetarian days on the menu! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Can I please join in? I am a serial lurker and follow this thread religiously.
I really do want to cut my spending, and managed 15 NSD's last month, and would like to try to improve on it for May. Aim for maybe 17? Did manage 4 days in a row a couple of times.
My cupboards and freezer are full, so really dont need to spend to much this month, apart from the fresh essentials. I would definitely be able to do this if I lived alone, but my DH eats junk like its going out of fashion, and I am lucky if a 24 pack of crisps lasts a week!
Most annoying fact is that he never puts any weight on!
I want to aim for 5 NSD's this week, as I know I will have to top up his stash, otherwise he will start to sulk! I really dont begrudge him anything though as he is very hard working.0 -

Aiming to clear 50% by Xmas 2012 :j0 -
Survived the first day just about - a small blip of spending 50p on a drink in an emergency situation but zilch apart from that. All temptation avoided :AAs God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again0

:j Hooray have managed to spendnothing on day 1 of the fast. Took packed lunch and snack to work and zoomed past the Co-op on the way home.
Know what you mean about A*da. the one near me seems tobe the place where people take their children to scream at them. Always feel like I've had my had in a bucket that;s being hit with a stick whenever I go there!
SO well done fellow fasters think we're all doing great!2012 Saving challenge £1000/£400! Woo! :wave:0 -
Evening all
enjoying everyone's posts, newbies and 'regulars', keeps my motivation up. Bit tricky atm as earnings are a bit sparse, frugality is the order of the day!
NSDs yesterday and today, may need petrol tomorrow, but still keeping food shopping down, although did need cat food and packed lunch essentials on Saturday.
Hadn't thought of applying same principles ie buying local to charity shopping, but when I think about it, some of my best experiences of CS have been with the more local ones - they do seem to employ, shall we say, more 'individual' staff!
7ww, would love a local food co op, just looked but my nearest is 59 miles away!
Catznine, hope you have a great holiday. Is our 30th anniversary soon, our 'luxury' (non Travelodge!) short break will be in celebration.0 -
Am a lurker on this thread and am not actually taking part properly but wanted to post my small success. On pay day, it as been my habit to take a delivery from Mr T BUT this morning, I went on-line and CANCELLED my order! I figured that as the only thing I really NEEDED was cat food, I would be better off popping in to my local shop and buying it in there... more expensive than Mr T but the overall saving..... WOW! Am really proud of myself!
Keep going everybody, you are all very inspiring!
