no spends here today:T was tempted to buy fruit and brown bread but decided to finish the last of the tinned fruit, I've got 2 slices of brown left - I like toast and marmalade in the mornings but I've got some ryvita so will make do with that until Friday when I am shopping again. If I make it to Friday then I can put £20 in my holiday fund:j:)

Also we have lots of fruit at work we are allowed to eat( I get meals for free at work) so I will make sure I have some of my 5 a day there.

I'd struggle with no tea or coffee if I had to go without too.

I've made more jellies in yoghurt pots and my tin of evapo milk is going a long way as I'm the only one eating it:)
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • Hi all:T
Totted up day 3 today (onwards and upwards eh). Took some HM soup out freezer last night for work today and hubby took some LO pasta. Tea tonight is a sausage pasta bake thingy with bits and bobs from fridge that need using up. Also remembered to defrost some berries from last summer to have as a pudding with some yogurt, so should be full tums all round.
Toilet roll stash is looking precariously low but fingers crossed it may last another couple of days:o.
    Well done everyone x
Moving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j
  • I didn't do so well :o I came across an offer for a veg box delivered for £4.25 (50% off for 3 week trial) so I lost my mind and bought it. I figure it'll keep me out of the supermarket. But now I realise I cracked. I'm actually finding it a little hard and have been distracted by the thought I *need* to buy groceries :o:o As well as purchasing this I have been on the grabbit & groceries board. Need to give myself a good talking to!

didn't eat tinned fruit & yogurt, instead ate a packet of crisps that I had at work, so will save that for tomorrow :T

Going to have salmon for dinner, with frozen french beans & mash. Will make a mountain of mash and freeze as potatoes are past their best!

Well - dinner was the slow cooked pulses with left over pork, 3 rubbery potatoes and the broccoli at the back of the fridge. Not only did it make a nice stew but there's enough for two more meals - talk about making a little go a long way!

I really wanted to crack and buy a treat for pudding but I didn't and made twinks hobnobs - dreadful for the diet but very yummy.

Tomorrow I am on a course so am hoping that my petrol will last- payday is on Friday - it just seems so far away at the moment.

Good days and bad days - bought the wedding outfit last week, then shut the purse for a bit. Then, at the weekend, helped DS move, which involved a little bit of spending - had to eat out (cheap Indian cafe).

Started again yesterday, and have had two NSDs, so back on track.
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!

cotton balls? what will you be using them for? couldnt you use a cloth?

Use them for cleaning off make up with make up remover and I also use them to clean my kitties eyes. Could use tissue but it seems to break up too easily.

However I go past a boots on Friday and can use my advantage points to buy some, technically it's not spending any money and I'm not wasting money driving there as I'm going past anyway.

Today was a good day. Vegetable soup for dinner which is always yummy! No temptation to spend either :)

Just lost my post. but in summary.

Discovered this morning that DH had ate both a croissant and the last 2 weetabix last night. Fortunately found a cereal bar for DD's breakfast. Think this challenge would be lots easier if we were allowed to handcuff our OH's to the nearest tree for the duration. :D

Me and kids have had hair/fringe kids courtesy of my mum who is a hairdresser. :kisses3:
I used a free service to my local Children's centre to have someone look and update my CV and am possibly doing a course there.

Need to take Nan shopping but I really want to watch today's budget. so think I'll ring her later and put off till tomorrow. I have around £16 in various coupons so I'm going to try and not go much beyond that if at all.

Lunch will be the leftover bolognaise from last night with the last of the spuds baked. Got chicken out for tea, though not totally sure what am doing with it yet. :o

A great tip I once got from another MSE'r (elona) was for the bits and bobs you have in that don't really go if you were to dish them up is to do a 'buffet' so the egg or 2 you may have boiled and sliced with the odd slice of ham and the last garlic bread out of your freezer with salad made up out of the bits. Might stretch your meals out for another day.

ETA- I bought DS a messenger bag within the 1st few weeks of him starting Secondary school when it became apparant his rucksack was struggling to hold everything. Within the 1st week the strap broke (kids pulling on it Grrrrr) anyway I am not in the slightest crafty but have a friend who is and I showed it to her and she has mended it for me. xxxxx

On to day 3 here :) So far, so good. Should be able to make it to weekend. Low on apples but heaps of oranges, so lunchboxes have had a change around.

Today I need to make a lemon cake for DH to take into work tomorrow - uses up old lemons in fridge and a carrot cake - will use up some of the large bag of carrots and also an orange which is bruised and squishy :) Make also make a small batch of bottom of fridge soup for me for lunches for rest of week - I need to lose weight and veg soup's always good for that and it ensures no waste. Finally, I promised DS a crumble for pudding, so I'll make a small one which can cook through when cakes are baking - have a couple of small bruised cooking apples which I'll use up. Also have a few small pieces of chopped tinned pineapple from making pizza - might throw them in too! :)

Dinner tonight - DD will have soup with leftover bagueete frozen at weekend. DS1 & DS3 pasta with leftover sauce in fridge. DH and I will have (I think) chicken breast wrapped in last-day cheap bacon and stuffed with half pack of mozzarella (left from making pizza) and served with veggies and sauteed potatoes (pack of new potatoes bought for valentines meal - so really need using up!! :D)

There's been no let up in the rain today and although we're not really affected it gets a bit worrysome with so much water on the roads. They had a roundup on the news tonight with stories of folks buying up milk and bread big time due to flooding in some areas. I'll not give in to temptation. :D

Am already eking things out though, especially savouring and being sparing with the little bit of salad stuff I have left. I have no problems with the dinners at all so far, tonight was chilli and rice with two portions put in the freezer for another day. However, I can see lunches will be the first to suffer and will undoubtedly start to feel the struggle next week without much in the way of fruit or salad.

There's no doubt that I'll not afford all that I would have liked with $21 on Friday, as I just realised I will need some cat litter

I have a list planned but will have to make some cutbacks somewhere or find some real bargains: it really does make you think so much about the cost of things.

I'm toying with the pros and cons of buying a cucumber at $1.79. I can't imagine getting through next week eating tuna salad or even a cheese sandwiches without it, yet it adds so little nutritional value and represents a big chunk of my allocated money. If I were really hard up there's no way would I justify the expense. I'll go and check the price in fruit and veg shop tomorrow as I am sure I saw a sign outside somewhere that had them for 0.99c

I was also going to get my hair cut last week, but put it off at the last minute. I am sure I can last another week before I start climbing the walls or start hacking at my fringe with the nail scissors. :rotfl:

Ok - so I went shopping. :o but it cost me 65p. :p I rang Nan and put off taking her shopping till tomorrow, but I had diff vouchers for various shops so I decided to use some today and some tomorrow. I had £10 left from when a certain store falesly accussed me of shoplifting.:eek: and I complained and they sent me £50 but I take my custom to a diff shop than the one that accussed me. So I have bread, croissants and rolls all reduced, bought salad that was on offer and bought jam, cheese and eggs. Left sandwich meat alone as we have a little bit left and plenty of chicken breaks, beef joints in freezer to use instead. Left veg as we have onions, carrots, frozen peas and a little bit of white cabbage and left fruit as there was nothing cheap enough.

I will buy anything else I feel needed tomorrow with Nan with my other coupons.
