Evening all Fiscal Follies, Started off really well today, used up all the leftover veg and meat from Sunday lunch, even froze the leftover gravy, but we ran out of coffee, so went to mor**son* and there were a lot of reduced items veg, cakes, meat and tinned stuff. Could'nt resist them, they will all get used, and dh nagging for some cider on offer. But back on it now, I really need to stop spending (family situations). I think I need counceling, I'm the same if I go in a £1 shop, it's like heaven to me. Anyway everyone seems to be doing really well keep on fiscalating and happy savings.0

Very close shave for me today. I had to go to post a card (already had the stamp) and the post shop is next door to a supermarket; I was so very nearly in there but managed to stay strong.
I had a really good excuse too, if you can magine my dilemma; we've had atrocious rains over the past few days and lots of surrounding rural places are flooded and without power today, so I was doubly tempted to grab some milk just in case transport of supplies becomes an issue later this week. I eventually managed to convince myself that actually worse things have happened than running out of milk.
Breakfast: Yoghurt & muesli
Lunch: Cheese, tomatoes, crackers and Cuppa Soup
Dinner: Spaghetti carbonara with remains of packet of bacon from Sunday breakfast.
This week I shall be mostly avoiding the diet thread.Mortgage

spendless well done you are adapting what you have and using up every scrap.I think thats the right idea .Instead of going and buying in just adapt something from the cupboard.Tappers well done on your bread and milk It seems to be the thing that gets folk to the shops is bread and milk.On my forthcoming Saturday shop I have milk and loo roll, not run out of the latter
but just put the last one in the holder.
Today's lunch is going to be a salad wrap (I will get through those blessed things from the freezer if it kills me )I have lettuce, celery cucumber, and instead of tomato's as I have run out I will have grated cheese and some mayo in it, and for dinner tonight from the freezer I have chicken casserole and mash and veggies, and for pudding I have some blackberry trifle with custard.
I am making fairy cakes today as my youngest three grandsons come to my house from school this afternoon for an hour as a change for them from me taking them straight home.It breaks their week up and I have some games here that are kept only for playing here, so they enjoy it.I must make some Easter cards for my friends who live a distance away,I may get the boys to help me do that as I know I have a box with rabbit decorations in in my stash. Day four, and another NSD.We are all doing so well, and just thinking about how much you seem to fritter away on small bits of shopping makes you realise its not always the 'big shop' that leaks your pennies away. What started as a small idea, has grown into over 200 posts with us all contributing different ideas. This is what the internet community is about I think
Well done everyone

Sorry fiscal follies ( I do like that name by the way - thank you stupid mammy) I have to give in a little. It's day nine and the dogs have run out of dog food. Now I know that they could make do with left overs but, trust me, there's not many of those left here. So I'm off today to buy a bag of their food (£11) but will aim to avoid any other temptations.
Today is porridge for breakfast ( I have a stash of ossimple to wade through) with some fruit from the freezer, a chilli pot for lunch ( last time i made a batch of chilli and rice I froze some smaller pots for lunches) and left over pork from Sunday in a stew ( well I had soaked some lentils and other pulses on Sunday to make a soup but it never happened so I thought if I cooked them in the slow cooker in stock and then added the pork and veg it could turn out alright - i'll let you know!!;)
Well done to everyone - lets see how long we can keep this going44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0 -
This thread is so inspiring!
I just seem to spend money so easily and justify all sorts of purchases because I "need" them.
Need to sit down and work out a proper budget!0 -
Day 1 yesterday was fine - packed lunches and various things for dinner - used up some ood cream cheese and grated parmesan to make a light cheese sauce and made pasta bake with some lo bolognese sauce from last week. Made the cheese sauce with full fat milk 2 days past it's date (but tatsting fine) diluted down with water to stretch it. Also then used the last of that ood milk to make a rice pudding with risotto rice (no pudding rice) and half a tub of double cream from the freezer (from last July!!) and some water. Was gorgeous - just finished the last portion for breakfast as we're really low on bread already (you can tell I didn't plan to start this!) and I'm not a cereals fan. Have put one child on wraps and pittas for lunch this week in an effort to stretch the bread supplies out (freezer is far too rammed to have any bread in there!) but will definitely need some tomorrow but I'm not including milk and bread in my fiscal fast because of the littlies. As long as I don't spend on other stuff I'll be fine!!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200

Day 4 for me and no ill harm has come to us through not going shopping! We have now run out of milk, bread, coffee & I have 1 tea bag left! Breakfast has been a banana smoothie using soya milk, 2 fozen bananas & a pot of ood yogurt. Was delish like a thick banana milkshake mmmmm
Lunch will be yesterday's soup and tinned fruit & yogurt. Dinner will be salmon & potatoes & veg with sauce.
Found myself on the Approved Foods website - the desire to get things cheaply is strong! I will be strong again.
Today has got to be the first time for years that I have not had a cup of coffee in the morning! I think we could go quite a while with out shopping as long as I got some yogurt (to make more!), milk, coffee, eggs & fruit! Might just buy these things at the weekend and see if I can do 2 weeks! Good luck out there guys xDF as at 30/12/16

Hi all, great to see everyone doing so well, you are an ingenious lot!
DNM, I have had to ban myself from the AF website for now - too tempting!
Have made veg stew and tried some scones in the microwave - smell good, look a little doughy, but I'm sure will be edible and will save buying anything today.
Not sure I could cope without tea or coffee in the morning - fortunately have reasonable supplies of both for now. ~However chocolate almost gone - will have to see if I can squeeze a small bar into my shop tomorrow.
Good luck today everyone!0 -
