Day 6 and all's well at the moment No shopping going to happen today as I amscouring around looking for odds and ends to wash as its a beautiful drying day here. One line out already and just put a load of slippers and odds and ends in for a little wash.I have several pairs( about 5) which I use for different things I have a really warm pair that I wlill put away when clean for the winter two slip on types that I use when showering and another paur that I actually only use in the garden when I'm getting the washing in or out I leave them in the conservatory specifically for that.So I though if I do them all today then I can put one pair away for when I go on holiday in 5 weeks time and tidy the rest away clean.I have also do two dressing gowns this morning One winter one to go away and one lighter one to be packed for my hols.I make alist of all the little odd jobs to be caught up on and work my way through then i don't think about going to the shops at all.Tonights dinner will be sheppards pie from the freezer with carrots and peas also from there and I think I will make an eves pudding as I have four wrinkly apples left in the fruit bowl so if I peel and slice them and drizzle a bit of honey over the top then top with a sponge mixture that should do me for at least 2-3 days pudding.I can use up somme natural yoghurt as a topping or make some custard as I have lots of evep milk in the cupboard in tins.
I have some pitta breads in the freezer so I think I will get one out and fill it with salad bits and some cheese and maybe a sliced hard bolied egg as a change from the wraps for lunch.
All lurkers do de-lurk and join in with us its great to get some input from a different angle
Cheers chums only 9 more days until a new month and I have just under half of my h'keeping still left in my purse:)

ooh - am enjoying this! We have bought a loaf of bread this week (I sent DH 'cos he's less likely to be seduced by offers than me!
) - but nothing else! We'll run out of bread again tomorrow, but we can survive until Saturday, when I'll get milk too (rather low now) and some f&v and yogurts. I've written a (very small) list and the only things I want to buy in excess of it are if there's any excellent whoopsies on chicken to be seen. We eat so much of it (and only free range or organic) that I never turn whoopsied chicken down if I see it.
Should make my supermarket trip quite quick! Actually, thinking about it, I might go after the school run tomorrow instead - I HATE supermarket shopping on a weekend with a vengeance!
We go on holiday a week Saturday - self catering in Cornwall, so I will be taking some foods away. However, it's nice to see my fridge emptying already so there won't be too much around to deal with.I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Right, this is day one for me. I have £26-69 in my purse that I want to make last for the rest of the month. In theory I could manage without spending at all as I'm well stocked up for food/drinks for myself and the pets. If I can save £16 of that money I will have saved enough to pay off another chunk of the mortgage (I save up £250 at a time), so that's a good incentive to have plenty of NSDs.
Knowing I don't need to spend and actually not spending are 2 different things - I think sometimes I pop to the shops because I'm at a loose end. So, as the weather is good, I'm going to spend as much time as possible in the garden getting on with the business of growing food. I've already got seeds growing, including a very early variety of tomato.

Right this is my start day as of 10am this morning, I've bought what we needed only to last hopefully over one week.
As well as putting petrol in my tank £13 roughly ten litres
I've topped up the gas £10 and electric £15.
We have enough in and I'm sick of being in my overdraft now and need to get out of it, our baby is due next Thursday and I think my problem was anxiety of not having enough food in for oh and ds1 to survive if I needed to stay in hospital....well their is enough and now I can stop!!!
the only thing I may need to pop out n get is milk n bog roll lol
I'm going to start leaving my cards at home now and stop carrying them.
I have things in to do baking with ds1 which him and his dad can take in lunch boxes to save money and found recipes to make some biscuits. That should stop me getting bored lolDs2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

I made it through the week to day 8 but needed to spend on days 9 and 10. Today I am proud of myself. Wanted to nip to the shop for some cheddar and a treat for pud. After a stern talking to myself I am "making do" with the cheap brie from Lidl in the fridge and hm yoghurt with fruit. Tomorrow and saturday will be spending days since its payday tomorrow but, like some others here, I want to leave the big shop until the following weekend when the easter holiday starts.44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0 -
My four week food period has come to an end today, but after buying just a few things like milk, I will next week be following the fiscal no spend to see how long I can last:) Im off on holiday for a week very soon so I could certainly do with the money saved to spend then (or I could put it towards Xmas/ cupboard food - not sure yet)
Anyway very impressed with everyone and finding this thread brilliant

Great to see everyone doing do well, and new peeps joining in - I'm being re- inspired by everyone's posts!
Today was a NSD, spent time in the garden, went to the library but avoided the shops and market, came home with some lovely new books to read.
Dinner was veg spag bol, used some AF green lentils, had sprouted mung beans and tinned artichokes as salad! Thanks to Winchelsea, beansprouts turned out really well, had them in stir fry last night too.
Tomorrow only spend should be coffee with DD, keeping this to max £5, should be last one for a while as it's something we do between college and orchestra, which finishes tomorrow.
Right, better go, queue for the pooter, keep it up ladies!0 -
No spends since sunday
oh, except DD1's 60p milk money for school. spent the time after school in the garden sowing salad stuff. mixed lettuce leaves, rocket, spinach, landcress and the girls made cressheads with the eggshells from the omelette they made for tea.
I'm not sure where their sudden enthusiasm for cooking has come from. They've always liked baking but now they want to learn it all (I'm definitely not complaining, by the way:D). I have been told by Bethany that she's making lasagne and roast chicken on sat/sun and I can watch and tell her what to do, but I can't help. (she's 6 for those of you that don't know!) I have everything in for lasagne, but the 'roast chicken' will be chicken drumsticks/thighs from the freezer.
I also wanted to add that although this started out as a bit of a fun challenge for me, it may become a necessity for a while at least. DH had a hospital app today to get the results of mri scan. He has arthritis in both hips and one is severe. It's even causing his hip to slip out of place quite regularly. He'll be having an op in the next 6 weeks, with a minimum 6wk recovery period. he's gutted and the dr can't understand why he would have it so severely at his age (41). 6 weeks on basic pay, no overtime, no weekend or night allowance. we'll temporarily be a lot worse off financially with things to pay off and a holiday to save for. my belt is about to become a lot tighter and my culinary skills more creative:rotfl:
I wonder what creations we'll be eating this time next month:eek:freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Hi all
Day 6 here but will definately need to go shopping some time today, but will try and only buy what we need (defo need toilet rolls before we have an emergency situation :rotfl:).
I'm so impressed with everyone's efforts a big round of hugs for everyone is in order I think:T.
I can now see whats in the freezer as we have some space!!!!. Getting round to using up containers of bits and bobs, I have defrosted some steak pie leftovers and will make little pasties today.
Pizza on the cards for tonights tea as everything is in.
Here's hoping I can keep the purse strings tightishly closed when I go shopping later.
