Well, I've had a fe spending days. Saturday I got my big shop in - enough for the rest of the week at least, but it wasn't helpful that my daughter was me and so a few 'extras' crept in.
Sunday was a lot of travel and hassle and although I took a packed much I ended up buying my son lunch at the airport.
Monday was a low spend day - just a punnet of peaches and today so far has been no spend and as I have no intention of going out anywhere it will stay no spend.
Now that the kids are back from their travels spending will go up, but I am aiming to keep at least some form of control over it!!!
The biggest thing I worry about financially is servicing the mortgage as it is massive and it mean that our household income has to remain high enough - so my DH keeps at the grindstone. That said, he's a bit of a workaholic so he'd keep very busy whatever our income requirements.
    Trying to keep in budget.

Fourth NSD here and I've already put a small bit across into savings as our interest is accrued daily so makes sense to put it in earlier than hang on.

DH asked me yesterday if I wanted him to buy bread and eggs on his way home as he'd used the last of them for breakfast, but the big shop is tomorrow so I said no and dug out a packet of cornflakes hiding in the cupboard which will do for his next 2 breakfasts. I have my porridge at work so that's sorted.

So for 4 days the bank account has remained firmly shut, with just the big shop tomorrow and NO BILLS coming out for another week (famous last words).

Have you tried MySupermarket? And did you see Dispatches about the supermarkets? The best strategy to reduce overall spend is to get the cheapest item from each supermarket and you will beat the cheapest single supermarket deal.

:) Well, I ended yesterday £60 lighter than I started it, so that was a very spendy day by my standards. Dentist and hairdresser, had stretched the haircut as long as I could. No money spent on trivia, but what with the oncoming bike bill, I can see a doubling of July's expenditures in the first 10 days of August alone.............:rotfl:

I suppose that's the thing about budgetting; you don't have exactly the same demands on your money each month, so if you say to yourself that you'll only be spending X on Y category each month, you're heading for a fall when RL changes on you.

My dentist bill and my bike bill will each represent £2-£3 per week when averaged over the year, but fall in a lump on August. Perhaps I should have abandoned fiscal fasting this month as a precaution, but I'm enjoying the discipline.

Other than that, I have spent a few pounds on food (circa £5) and bought nothing else. Have visited the library and got the latest installment of a series I follow which I started last night, so I feel that I am having a treat like that. You don't need to own something to get enjoyment out of it.

And if you don't own it you are richer and have less housework to do, what's not to like?

Is there a local equivalent? Even so price checking key ingredients that you use can save a fortune.

I will be joining you in the very near future. As soon as the move is over, the utilities and council tax are changed to my name and I know exactly what I have to play with every month.

I know already it's into minus figures and I've taken a chunk out of the inheritance.... well, that's what an emergency fund is there for.

Managed 4 NSD's Sun - Thurs, bought a new bike lock yesterday but paid for with amazon vouchers.

Today is a LSD as I've spent a whole £4.37 on a stock of cereal bars for OH, 2 books for my friends lad and some sweets for me to get me through the Thursday grind!

Morning all,not much spending this week as I am away on friday for two weeks so in my fridge at the moment I have some tomatoes, half a lettuce, milk, a quarter of a cucumber , couple of yoghurts, three eggs, and some cheese.I only have tonights dinner and Wednesday night to cook for.Tonight I will have some lasagne from the freezer and a yoghurt, and wednesday night I think I may use up the last of the salad bits with a jacket sweet potato.Tuesday nights meal will be at the pub quiz and Thursday night I am out to dinner at DDs. So I have still got a few pounds left in my food purse but I'll leave it at home when I go away to use up when I come home.
The other day my neighbour said that our local tesco metro was selling off their everyday value vegetable soups at half price
I bought up 22 tins at 12p a tin which have gone into my store cupboard:) What I don't use with crackers and cheese for light lunch I can shove into a casserole,at that price it was well worth splashing out :):) Right time to get a move on and have breakfast
    Have a good week everyone
